The EPA has announced that it intends to reconsider the 2024 Risk Management Program (RMP) rule. Such an action would continue a tug-of-war over RMP requirements that has spanned multiple administrations. The agency may revert to requirements put in place in 2019 by rescinding the 2024 requirements for information availability and safer technologies. While the precise timing of a potential new rule is still uncertain, status updates in related litigation indicate that EPA is hoping to finalize a new RMP rule by late 2026. To chart the evolution of the rule and learn what rescinding it would mean for stakeholders, click below to download our Commentary. A recently proposed bipartisan bill, which is part of a broader push to regulate food products statewide, aims to eliminate certain UPFs from school meals by 2032. If enacted, the bill would create the first statutory definition of UPFs and likely have ripple effects nationwide as states consider restrictive legislation directed at the food and beverage industry.
