When 29 year old Darren was diagnosed with leukemia just weeks before his fiancé Ivy was due to give birth to their first child, their plans for a dream wedding on March 14 took an unexpected turn. Determined to celebrate their love and “new beginning” together, Darren and Ivy asked to be married at Loyola University Medical Center, where Darren is receiving treatment. Moved by their resilience and beautiful story, our chaplain team went above and beyond, creating a heartfelt ceremony filled with love, hope, and joy. Despite the challenges they’ve faced, Darren and Ivy’s spirits remain incredibly strong, inspiring everyone around them. Today, we celebrate this incredible couple and their unwavering strength. Join us in sending your love and congratulations to Darren and Ivy in the comments below!

At Loyola Medicine, we're committed to providing the best possible care for our transplant patients, and that includes educating the community about the life-saving option of living kidney donation. I'm excited to share a new video featuring two of our experts: Transplant Coordinator Megan Parker, RN, and Kidney Transplant Surgeon RAQUEL GARCIA-ROCA. In this video, Megan and Dr. Garcia-Roca discuss the critical importance of patients being their own advocates throughout the kidney donation process. They also highlight the numerous benefits of receiving a kidney from a living donor compared to a deceased donor, including better long-term outcomes and shorter wait times. This is a valuable resource for anyone considering becoming a living donor, anyone on the transplant waiting list, or anyone who simply wants to learn more about kidney transplantation.
