“NovApproach Spine has cracked the code!” That's how Dr. Timur Urakov M.D., assistant professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of Miami, described his experience with the OneLIF™ cage during the University of Miami department of Neurosurgery's 8th Annual Spine Symposium this week. After outlining the various approaches to the spine, he said that OneLIF enables a new supine lateral approach that can be added to the array of choices for spine surgeons to consider. At the recent Spine Summit meeting, Dr. Thomas Terramani presented his experience with a new anterior-to-psoas (ATP) approach to the spine with the patient in the supine, rather than lateral position. His study demonstrated that the Supine ATP approach provides a corridor to the lumbar spine that is: • safe--patient in supine position • yielded minimal complications • allowed him to place a large ALIF cage, and • offered the flexibility to combine direct anterior (ALIF) surgery in a "single position". Additionally, this technique reduced vascular retraction and mobilization, and addressed the limitations of direct anterior surgery for cases with difficult anatomical challenges.
