I saw this coming years ago. Steelbrick/Salesforce CPQ was a fantastic product in its time, tackling real challenges in pricing and quoting. However, like many products, it had its limitations - especially after the founder and key contributors moved on to other ventures. The reality is, Salesforce CPQ wasn’t built for today’s modern businesses that require hybrid revenue models - blending subscriptions, consumption-based pricing, credit-based models, services, and physical goods - while also demanding a higher level of agility. Businesses today need the flexibility to iterate on products, pricing, and packaging frequently, which directly impacts billing and revenue operations. And let’s not forget channels - Salesforce CPQ was heavily optimized for direct sales, leaving many businesses struggling with partner and multi-channel selling. The insights I gained from both Steelbrick/Salesforce CPQ and Zuora led me to found Nue - designed from the ground up to solve the challenges of hybrid channels, hybrid revenue models, and fast-moving business environments. The EOL of Salesforce CPQ doesn’t mean you’re left with only one choice, like RCA. Businesses are already making the switch - every month, customers successfully transition from Salesforce CPQ to Nue. It’s the Nue era. 🚀

Salesforce CPQ is EOL. It's time to admit it as fact. Last week Salesforce announced that it won't sell Steelbrick/Salesforce CPQ to net new customers. Now, couple that with no product updates in 4+ years. What do you get? End of Life. We can argue semantics about how CPQ will still run and why no one needs to migrate (yet), which is correct. But EOL doesn't mean that a product doesn't work; it means that the company that made it no longer supports it. And that's what we have today: a product that drives a significant revenue stream without continued investment. Add in the fact that there's no feasible way to inject AI into Steelbrick, and no new revenue is coming in the door, and you now have no incentive to build new features. What do you get? End of Life. While Salesforce won't announce it or a sunset date, the writing is on the wall. CPQ is a dying product. I encourage you to begin discovery today to figure out your next move. If you're waiting for Salesforce to tell you, you may be waiting until it's too late. #cpq #steelbrick #salesforce #businesssystems
