8 years ago a field trial with biochar and compost began at Oasis Vineyard in California, here's the latest report with data from the 6th harvest of grapes. Summary: in this sandy and low organic matter soil, all treatments of biochar and compost have improved yield volume without negatively impacting yield quality thereby generating significant economic gain. The project was initially funded by CA Dept of Water Resources, designed by UC Riverside, and organized by Sonoma Ecology Center. Well beyond the horizon of grant funding, the vineyard management team at Monterey Pacific Inc have done a stellar job in maintaining the trial, generating data, and - this is important - continuing to make the data available to the public. https://lnkd.in/gQqRMytD

Biochar and compost were applied to a heavy clay soil at Dominus Estate in Napa Valley during a vineyard redevelopment. After two years fallow, the soil texture was notably improved leading to management practice shifts across their acreage.
