Providing software solutions to help navigate California's criminal system for over 30 years

About us

The Placer Group has been empowering legal professionals for over 30 years with cutting-edge legal resources like CrimeTime, CrimeFinder, and the Crimes Listing booklet. Founded in 1992 by Leonard Tauman and Dan Koukol, the company pioneered the computerization of California’s criminal sentencing laws. In 1996, alongside renowned Stanford programmer Miriam Liskin, they launched CrimeTime, which quickly became the go-to tool for judges and legal professionals across California. By 1998, over 500 judges had been trained on its use, and by 1999, CrimeTime was utilized in nearly every county in the state. In 2011, The Placer Group expanded its offerings with CrimeFinder, a crime lookup tool for mobile devices, which is now used over 7,000 times a day, making it California's most popular criminal justice app.
