Meet Amanda Rogers, The Port Authority's new director of construction for major capital projects. Rogers is now in charge of some of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in the country, including the construction of the new Midtown Bus Terminal and consulting on the Gateway Program (two new train tunnels under the Hudson River to be used by Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT). She also worked on the complete transformation of JFK International Airport, as well as the restoration of the George Washington Bridge, and has spent her career shining a path forward for the next generation of women in construction and engineering. “I tell all the young engineers that you chose the best place in the world to work as an engineer,” said Rogers. “The diversity of our projects and the impact of our projects in this area of the country and world, it’s absolutely phenomenal.” Read the article below or head to our Now Arriving blog to learn more: https://ow.ly/iCLs50VlFn6 #WomensHistoryMonth #WomenInSTEM #Construction

We just DOUBLED the electric vehicle (EV) fast charging capacity of JFK International Airport! Twenty-four new Revel chargers have been installed at the For-Hire Vehicle Hold Lot 1 West charging station, for a total of 46 now available. These additional chargers help meet growing demand for electric vehicle charging infrastructure at Port Authority facilities, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 3,720 metric tons each year. “The Port Authority and its private partners like Revel [and Con Edison] are leading the charge in building a net-zero future, and this latest expansion of two dozen more fast chargers at JFK is a major boost in that work,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “More access to electric vehicle charging equipment helps advance our sustainability goals and reaffirms our agency’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.” Head to our Press Room to learn more: https://ow.ly/OEfn50Vl2Jq #ElectricVehicle #EV #Aviation #Airport #Sustainability

#ICYMI LaGuardia is the BEST U.S. AIRPORT!! Forbes Travel Guide’s survey of 5,000 hospitality and travel experts and the guide’s most well-traveled fliers has named LaGuardia Airport the best in the nation. This award is the latest in a long list of accolades for the airport after its historic $8 billion transformation. “From the very start, our mission at LaGuardia Airport was to transform what was once the worst airport in the nation into an airport that would rival the best in the world,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “Accepting this award from Forbes Travel Guide is further proof that with our private partners, Delta Air Lines and LaGuardia Gateway Partners, we have created a new LaGuardia Airport that is no longer a national laughingstock, but something our entire region and country can be proud of.” Head to our Press Room to learn more: https://ow.ly/R5cS50Vkg5u #LaGuardia #Airport #WorstToBest #AWholeNewLGA

Meet Jolene Yeats, AICP, director of The Port Authority's World Trade Center department. Roughly 200,000 people pass through the World Trade Center Oculus each day, but her goal is to transform the World Trade Center from a stopover for commuters into a dynamic transit, business, and cultural hub. “This is the only part of the Port Authority that should be a destination in itself. Whether it’s a company leasing offices, a business owner renting retail space, or a tourist coming to shop, we need to create a reason for people to choose this place over somewhere else," said Yeats. The World Trade Center campus offers a lively, diverse mix of shops, restaurants, and art along with crowd-pleasing events like music performances, sports viewings, food festivals and outdoor movie screenings. Over the last century, some of the best leaders within the Port Authority have been women. And that tradition continues today. On March 1, the start of Women’s History Month, Sarah McKeon became the Port Authority’s new director of aviation. With McKeon’s well-earned promotion, for the first time in 104 years of keeping this region moving, the Port Authority’s five major business departments are led by women. Yes, this is historic in a moment when just 29 percent of C-suite positions across America are filled by a woman, but it is also what happens in a work environment where everyone is given an equal chance to excel. Diannae Ehler, Sarah McKeon, P.E., CM, Clarelle DeGraffe, Beth Rooney and Jolene Yeats, AICP were chosen because each were (and still are) the most qualified person to lead their respective departments. The fact that it’s Women’s History Month, just adds even more significance to their incredible roles! We’re proud to have their leadership!

LaGuardia is ACI World - Airports Council International's Best Airport in its Class...AGAIN! LaGuardia Airport has gone through a dramatic transformation from worst in 2018, to best in 2023 and 2024, based on Airport Service Quality (ASQ) surveys from thousands of passengers. The airport's satisfaction ratings have risen steadily as we replaced smaller, antiquated terminal with new state-of-the-art facilities, and this year LaGuardia received its highest ever passenger satisfaction rating! “The ASQ award is based on direct assessments from those who matter the most – the air travelers who are using LaGuardia Airport in record numbers,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “When we started out on our $8 billion transformation of LaGuardia with our private partners, Delta Air Lines and LaGuardia Gateway Partners, few believed we could transform the nation’s most reviled airport into the world-class airport our region deserves. But this second ASQ award proves yet again that seeing is believing.” This recognition, in addition to a steady stream of accolades like Best U.S. Airport (Forbes Travel Guide), and 5-star ratings and Best New Airport Terminal in the World for Terminal B (Skytrax), is further proof that it really is #AWholeNewLGA! We just launched a $50 million fund to support Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (ACDBEs) at our New York City airports (LaGuardia and JFK). This effort increases opportunities for ACDBEs to participate in airport concessions contracts, and includes two loans that have already been approved for Queens-based businesses Golden Krust and Singas Famous Pizza to open at JFK's Terminal 8. “Programs such as the ACDBE Fund enable small business owners like me to establish a presence at JFK," said ACDBE concessionaire Manish Chadha of Singas Pizza. “Supporting local small businesses by providing opportunities at our airports is part of the Port Authority’s goal of creating a world-class JFK Airport that opens doors for enterprising New Yorkers and also reflects the vibrant spirit of this city,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “Our new business fund with Empire State Development enables opportunities for local small businesses to bring their distinct brands to the millions of national and international air passengers who use our airports.” Head to our Press Room to learn more: https://ow.ly/Qcex50VcZv3 #Airport #Concessions #SmallBusiness #ShopLocal #Queens

Major Engineering Milestone: George Washington Bridge Suspender Rope Replacement Completed The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has successfully completed its seven-year effort to replace all 592 original suspender ropes on the George Washington Bridge—a crucial milestone in the $2 billion Restoring the George program. This project was the most complex and impactful component of the bridge’s rehabilitation, ensuring it remains structurally sound and operational for decades to come. The suspender ropes—ranging from 38 to 674 feet in length—were replaced while keeping the world’s busiest vehicular bridge open to traffic. “Replacing every original suspender rope required years of expertise and dedication, all while keeping the bridge open to vehicular traffic. Together with the upcoming reopening of a newly reconstructed and improved south sidewalk, we are creating a more connected and accessible transportation network for all travelers across the region.” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. What’s next? A newly reconstructed south sidewalk will open next year, providing dedicated pedestrian access, while cyclists use the north sidewalk. Port Authority Police Department (PAPD) officers make the save of a lifetime. Six months ago, New Jersey resident Herbert Villa was getting ready to board a routine flight out of Newark Liberty International Airport when he suffered a severe medical episode. Despite no signs of trouble, Mr. Villa collapsed outside security and suffered from cardiac arrest. PAPD was able to revive him using a heart defibrillator. He was then transported to the hospital, where he underwent triple bypass surgery. Last week, Mr. Villa was reunited with the PAPD officers that rushed to save his life. Thank you and great work to Officers Bryan Cardona, Anas Swailmyeen, Finn Ebersbach, and Christopher Lopez (not shown), as well as the United Airlines and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees that assisted at the scene.
