❄️🏔️ What do glaciers mean to you? On this first-ever World Day for Glaciers, we’re reflecting on the stories glaciers tell — shaping landscapes, ecosystems, and human history. At the Whyte Museum, the MELTDOWN: A Drop in Time exhibit, featuring the photographic works of Jim Elzinga and Roger Vernon — presented by Guardians of the Ice — brings the evolving story of glaciers to life through art and photography. This exhibit invites visitors to witness change, reflect on impact, and deepen their connection to these landscapes. At the heart of the MELTDOWN exhibition is the knowledge that we need to see ourselves as part of an interconnected web of living relationships. Knowing ourselves in this way will teach us how to act for the good of all of us and all of life, says Jim Elzinga, Photographer and Founder, Guardians of the Ice. At Pursuit’s Columbia Icefield experience, we are honoured to help visitors engage with the glacier in a meaningful way, ensuring they leave with a deeper appreciation for its significance and the responsibility we share in their stewardship. Later this year, select prints from the MELTDOWN exhibit will move to the Glacier Gallery at the Columbia Icefield Centre —operated by Parks Canada in partnership with Guardians of the Ice — where guests will have the opportunity to engage with these powerful stories at the edge of the Icefield itself. Whether through guided interpretation or immersive storytelling, we invite visitors to connect with these incredible landscapes and reflect on their place in the world around us. You can visit The MELTDOWN exhibition at the Whyte Museum until April 13.
