Branded or blind? One of the biggest decisions when building an insight community. As Co-CEO and Chief Methodologist, I get this question all the time from prospective customers. They want to know which approach—branded or blind—will give them the best insights. And in almost every case, the answer is clear: branded communities win. Why? Here’s what we’ve seen time and time again: ✅ Higher engagement. When people know who they’re talking to, they’re far more likely to participate. It’s that simple. ✅ Better data, deeper insights. Branded communities foster long-term relationships, leading to richer feedback and a more nuanced understanding of what your audience truly thinks. ✅ Lower costs, higher ROI. With a branded community, you don’t have to constantly recruit new participants. Engaged members stick around, making your research more efficient and cost-effective over time. But what about bias? Bias is a valid concern in any research methodology. But the idea that branded communities only generate favorable feedback? That’s actually a myth. In reality, engaged participants become more critical and thoughtful over time—not less. They’re invested in the process and want to be heard, making their feedback even more valuable. At the end of the day, a branded community creates a virtuous cycle: Transparent recruitment → more engaged participants → better insights → stronger decisions.
