Civic and Social Organizations
A solidarity-through-sports initiative founded in Ireland in 2018
About us
Sanctuary Runners is a solidarity-through-sport initiative and registered charity which uses running, walking and sea-swimming to bring together people seeking international protection, refugees, migrants and all Irish residents. Our model allows communities to get to know each other, fosters community integration and improves physical and mental health. As a non-political group that focuses on positive action, we operate under the principles of solidarity, friendship and respect. We do not aim to be the fastest running team in the world……but definitely the friendliest! Registered Charity Number 20206637

🏆 Announcing the Sports and Wellness Fund Awardees! 💬 Ireland, like many other nations, is grappling with the health implications brought about by rising rates of sedentary lifestyles, obesity, and associated physical and mental health issues. One of our most powerful tools for improving mental health outcomes is physical activity, yet it remains underutilized as a therapeutic resource⚽ This innovative two-year fund addresses this need by supporting social organisations that use sports programmes to enhance mental wellbeing, reduce anxiety and depression, and strengthen social inclusion across Ireland. Our focus is particularly on reaching marginalised communities and people with varying abilities. 🌠 That's why we're thrilled to introduce our five exceptional awardees who are transforming lives through sports and physical activity 🎉 🌟 Active Connections CLG 🌟 Irish Homelesss Street Leagues 🌟 Football Cooperative 🌟 Sanctuary Runners 🌟 Special Olympics Ireland Congratulations to all five awardee organisations! 👏 What makes this fund unique? It's built on a self-funded model where awardees secure their own philanthropic funding, which is then uplifted at a certain percentage by Rethink Ireland utilising the Dormant Accounts funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development Want to learn more about these incredible projects? Visit our website 🔗https://lnkd.in/ekjtyXv7 Together, we're building a healthier, more inclusive Ireland - one game, one run, one activity at a time. 🏃♀️⚽️🏊 #SportsForAll #MentalHealth #CommunityImpact #SocialInnovation #WellnessIreland #SocialInnovation #SocialInclusion #SocialImpact #ImpactMeasurement Renata M.

Today marks the 𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐝𝐚𝐲 of Sanctuary Runners 🎂 🎉 We have been sharing our highlights for each of the last 7 years across our social media channels, from 2018 where an idea took hold and 200 people - 40 different nationalities, took part in the Cork City Marathon for the first time. 2019, where we won the first of many awards, through 2020 where Olympian Claire Lambe kept us together with our Sanctuary Strength zoom workouts. Each year saw our movement grow, with groups forming in cities and towns around Ireland. Today we have over 40 groups and continue to grow both in Ireland and internationally, bringing people together in friendship and solidarity, building bridges in communities, fostering friendships. This lovely birthday message was put together by Baker from our Buncrana group to celebrate 7 years of Sanctuary Runners. Look out for our #bluewave celebrating around the country this weekend as we run, jog, walk and celebrate together in #solidarity #friendship and #respect. https://www.facebook.com/sanctuaryrunners https://www.instagram.com/sanctuaryrunners/

"We need an integration strategy that involves everybody across the country rather than putting the onus of integration solely on the migrant. Changing this plan will lead to more social cohesive communities and benefit everybody" https://lnkd.in/esJCtNy8
