Scott+Scott filed a securities class action lawsuit against Actinium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and certain former or current officers and directors for making misleading statements regarding the company's business, financial condition, and prospects. The lawsuit alleges that these statements caused significant financial losses when the truth about the company’s prospects was revealed. The stock price of Actinium plummeted nearly 60% on August 5, 2024, after a press release disclosed the need for additional clinical trials before submitting a Biologics License Application to the FDA. The Los Angeles Times recently published an article about the Blake Lively lawsuit citing California state law AB933 and a 2023 amendment to the bill that provides critical legal protection for individuals making statements about harassment, assault, or discrimination. The bill was first drafted and proposed by attorney Victoria Burke, Esq., based in our San Diego office. Victoria is now advancing the bill nationwide, with 15 states introducing the bill this 2025 legislative session, including New York (AB687), Massachusetts (House Docket No. 3973), Illinois (HB 3311), Pennsylvania (HB 713), and New Jersey (AB A4857). Scott+Scott is proud to support the DELAWARE LAW RELATED EDUCATION CENTER INC mission to provide active learning experiences and skills development for Delaware students. Through its various programs and initiatives, DELREC seeks to foster a greater understanding of the law, encourage and support student participation in law-related education, provide access to information about careers in the law and public service sector, and encourage interest in legal careers. Scott+Scott partners Jing-Li Yu and Paige Alderson, along Scott+Scott’s Director of Information Technology, Ted McBride, had the pleasure of sharing lunch with fourth-grade students from Thomas Edison Charter School. Our wonderful colleagues at Faegre Drinker, including Oderah C. Nwaeze (Partner) and Sheila Bonham (Regional Director of Administration), were kind enough to help host the day. Following lunch, the students enjoyed a tour of Faegre's offices. The day provided a great chance to learn more about careers at law firms. "By the end of the visit, many of the students had decided they wanted to work at a law firm some day," School Program Manager Aimee Elson said. Justin Reliford, Managing Partner of Scott+Scott’s Delaware office, in a recent Law.com article weighed in on the discussion of the impact of Delaware’s controversial corporate law amendments. “While the bill has been described as a way to curb the filing of unsubstantiated shareholder litigation, filtering out those lawsuits is a function the Court of Chancery has long performed without needing legislative intervention,” Justin noted.
