55 6th graders from Paul Revere K-8 made deposits into their Kindergarten to College (K2C) accounts at City Hall and learned about the program with Treasuerer José Cisneros and Mayor Daniel Lurie 丹尼爾·羅偉 this week! K2C is the first universal, automatic Child Savings Account program in the country, founded in 2011. K2C automatically opens a savings account with $50 in public funds for every child entering kindergarten in San Francisco’s public schools, putting students on a path to college from their first day of school. New research from the inaugural K2C cohort (class of 2023) shows that K2C boosts college access, especially for underrepresented students. Overall, K2C participants were 6% more likely to enroll in college than the comparison group!

Check this out! During National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Star weekend, the NBA, National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), Golden State Warriors and Heart of America participated in multiple service projects at Bret Harte Elementary School including packing 700 backpacks with school supplies for students, facilitating fun literacy activities, distributing books, painting murals around the school and participating in grounds beautification projects. Additionally, our partners unveiled a newly refurbished gymnasium for the students! Thank you so much to everyone who made this possible and who came out to celebrate including our Board of Education members and Mayor Daniel Lurie!

Thank you to the hundreds of educators and District staff who attended the Language and Literacy Curriculum Institute! (Sponsored by SPARK SF PUBLIC SCHOOLS "Ready, Set, Read!" Campaign) This day-long institute was organized by the amazing SFUSD Curriculum and Instruction team to support teachers in their continued adoption of a new literacy curriculum - something that SFUSD has not done in over a decade! The sessions addressed the complexities of equitably serving our diverse and vibrant student body - everything from cross-linguistic transfer, equitable discussion strategies, empowering multi-lingual learners, to learning how to integrate Amira, the high-dosage tutoring platform integrated with the new curriculum. If we want excellent schools, we must stand together and equip our teachers with the tools, professional opportunity, support, and love they deserve and need!
