Rob Weisbord, Sinclair COO and President of Local Media, to Be Inducted Into the 33rd Annual Broadcasting+Cable Hall of Fame The Broadcasting+Cable Hall of Fame, paying tribute to the innovators within broadcast, cable, and streaming television, has announced that Rob Weisbord, Sinclair’s COO and President of Local Media, will be inducted into its class of 2025. The 33rd annual gala will be held on Tuesday, September 30, at New York’s Ziegfeld Ballroom. Weisbord joined Sinclair in 1997 and has steadily risen through the ranks, playing a pivotal role in the company’s growth and success. He is responsible for operations across the company’s 185 owned and operated television stations in 86 markets, overseeing local broadcast operations as well as revenue for all Sinclair divisions, including Tennis Channel, multicast networks Comet, CHARGE!, TBD/ROAR, and The Nest, as well as the nation’s largest streaming aggregator of local news content, NewsON. Weisbord also oversees Compulse, Sinclair’s marketing technology and managed services company. Sinclair Becomes First Broadcast Media Company Approved by FAA to Pilot Drones Over People Without Waiver for Newsgathering Sinclair Inc. has achieved a groundbreaking milestone in drone journalism. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has accepted Sinclair’s Declaration of Compliance for Operations Over People, making Sinclair the first broadcast company authorized to fly drones over individuals and moving vehicles without needing an FAA waiver for news gathering under FAA rules. Congratulations to Jeff Rose and The Drone Team! Sinclair is committed to ensuring its drone operations are conducted safely and responsibly. All Sinclair drone pilots undergo rigorous training at Virginia Tech Mid-Atlantic Aviation Partnership (MAAP), an FAA-designated UAS test site. This partnership ensures pilots are equipped with advanced skills and knowledge in drone operations and safety procedures. Sinclair’s Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) program, launched in 2016, operates across 50 newsrooms nationwide and has completed over 40,000 logged flights to date. Sinclair Inc., Inc. and ONE Media Technologies will be participating in the 2025 NAB Show next week in Las Vegas. Members of the leadership team will participate in multiple panel discussions and technical paper presentations during the April 5-9 show. Sinclair and ONE Media will also be participating in ATSC’s NAB booth in the West Hall (W3056) providing demonstrations of the features that will be enabled by ATSC 3.0 when broadcasters can sunset their 1.0 signals, including 4K Advanced HDR video, Advanced Emergency Alerting capabilities, the Broadspan Data Distribution platform and a Broadcaster Application. T Sinclair will also be providing an update on the use of ATSC 3.0 to provide complementary position, navigation, and timing services in conjunction with eLORAN, to back up GPS service in the event of disruption. The search for her replacement, which includes both internal and external candidates, is expected to commence shortly.
