#SaaSBoomi Annual '25 was a fantastic event. Some people thought I was nuts to go all the way to India just for this two-day event. They have no idea how big of a deal the startup movement is in India at the moment. With over 2500+ attendees and 700+ founders gathered under one roof, two days wasn't just enough to network. What jetlag? I was running on pure adrenaline. Made a lot of new friends and met a lot more inspiring people. Here are some key takeaways and my observations - ✔ India missed the last two waves (Internet and Cloud & Mobile) by playing catch-up and not being on the innovation front. However, with AI, almost everyone is on an even playing field. With India producing over 15 million developers and hosting over 16% of global AI talent, it might be poised to take on a key leadership role in the AI wave. ✔ AI Infrastructure still seems to be the missing piece in the puzzle. There are talks about investments in this area, but progress has yet to be made. ✔ Just like in the US, I heard many pitches for purely SaaS apps getting AI-washed. I also heard many pitches for agentic AI apps. There were many startups in the "AI SDR" and "AI CX" space. Many were going after low-hanging use cases in the sales and marketing areas. But I also heard some pitches in the Pharma, IoT, and Manufacturing spaces too. ✔ Lot of VC and other funding support for the startup ecosystem in India. Even the various state governments are offering incubators and accelerators of sorts to enable such startups and boost innovation. There is a lot of support from the Indian diaspora living in the US as well. It is a very healthy sign of things to come there. ✔ Almost all startup founders acknowledge that the US is still the biggest market that they want to tap into. While India is still a fantastic market for B2C startups, the US is still a 10X bigger market than India for B2B. Indian startup founders were complaining about Government bureaucracy, business taxes, processes, etc., which are major roadblocks for startups. ✔ I shared my PoV and insights on the US market, how to do GTM in the US market, current hot and happening trends in the AI scene here, and how Stratola LLC can help such startups build a bridge to the US and grow their market share here. ServiceNow acquires Moveworks - Good move. More such acquisitions will happen. 𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐛𝐮𝐛𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐬 - I have been using this term for the last few months to indicate how vendors like Salesforce, ServiceNow, etc. have been creating agents but largely for their own environments (bubbles). This does not truly enable or empower customers to implement end-to-end enterprise workflows. 𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 (𝐀𝐈𝐅) - This is also another concept I have been pushing for the last several months. Agentic bubbles need to burst, and their boundaries should open up for true enterprise workflows like a sales process, Order-to-Cash, Procure-to-Pay, etc. For that to happen, we will need an AIF that will allow multi-vendor agentic interoperability. This doesn't exist today, but there are signs of such technology emerging. This is a 𝐇𝐔𝐆𝐄 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞. Emergence of new protocols like 𝐌𝐂𝐏 is only paving the way for this. Until such an AIF emerges, vendors like ServiceNow or Salesforce will acquire companies like Moveworks to enable their customers to build true end-to-end enterprise automation workflows. This is also a stop-gap measure and will hit roadblocks in the future. 𝐒𝐚𝐚𝐒 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐈-𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 - Finally, this is just the beginning of a paradigm shift we are bound to see in the enterprise software world, where SaaS companies will move into an AI-first model.
