The rumors are true… The Great Elephant Migration has arrived at TMC! Three special visitors on John P. McGovern Commons lawn are ready to make new friends. Come say hello to: Nilgiri (46) – The wise matriarch. Ashoka (3) – A playful mud-splashing pro. Ambar (13) – A curious, mischievous teen with a soft spot for “borrowing” bananas. In India, elephants and people have shared space for centuries, coexisting through tradition, innovation, and a deep respect for nature. The Great Elephant Migration celebrates this harmony. Houston continues to grow, and so does its need for a strong, driven workforce to boost the region’s economic impact and provide financial security for the next generation. That’s exactly what our BioPath program is addressing—connecting middle and high school students with career and job opportunities in the biomanufacturing industry that would allow them to build financial stability and give back to their communities. As our Chief External Affairs and Administration Officer Ashley McPhail said during an interview with Houston Chronicle, “Exposing children to experiential learning is so important… Biomanufacturing is the latest and fastest-growing career path. So, to make sure we’re meeting industry demand, we thought, why not?” Thanks to Claire Partain for highlighting our efforts as we continue driving Houston’s life sciences ecosystem. Mayor Turner was a visionary leader who saw the importance of public/private partnerships and the role of innovation in driving Houston forward. Through the pandemic and Hurricane Harvey, he worked collaboratively with the Texas Medical Center to coordinate emergency response efforts and provide resources to protect Houstonians. He was also a partner in transformative initiatives such as TMC3, Helix Park, and TIRZ 28. Mayor Turner will be remembered for his dedication to the people of Houston and the mission of Texas Medical Center. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and the entire Houston community.
But Sylvester Turner was a remarkable public servant that impacted, quite frankly, millions of people. He rose from poverty to meet with presidents, kings and queens. But here's what I want everybody to remember: He never forgot where he came from. That's remarkable.
