The Foundation oversees and directs activities in for the Prix Galien, an international award that recognizes outstanding achievements in improving the human condition through the development of innovative therapies. The Prix Galien was created in 1970 in honor of Galen, the father of medical science and modern pharmacology. Worldwide, the Prix Galien is regarded as the equivalent of the Nobel Prize in biopharmaceutical research. The Prix Galien has been introduced across Europe, Canada, the United States and is now the most prestigious award of its kind in 11 countries.

Announcing Professor Madhu Dikshit as a Member of the Modi Prix Galien India Committee We are honored to welcome Professor Madhu Dikshit, a distinguished scientist renowned for her significant contributions to molecular pharmacology, to the Modi Prix Galien India Awards Committee. Her extensive research in redox biology, nitric oxide biology, and metabolism has profoundly impacted the field of pharmacology. A Legacy of Innovation and Leadership ➡ Pioneering Scientist: Professor Dikshit's research has advanced our understanding of how nitric oxide modulates neutrophil functions, including differentiation, survival, free radical generation, NETosis, chemotaxis, and microbicidal activity. She has also investigated the role of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in metabolic regulation and insulin sensitivity. ➡ Academic and Research Excellence: With a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from CDRI, Lucknow, she has held prestigious positions, including Director of CSIR-CDRI. She has published over 200 well-cited papers, 25 reviews, edited three books, holds eight patents, and has supervised 37 Ph.D. and 10 M.D. theses, mentoring numerous graduate students. Recognizing Excellence ➡ Prestigious Honors: Professor Dikshit is a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences, India, and the Indian National Science Academy. She has also been awarded the J.C. Bose National Fellowship for her outstanding contributions to science. Steering the Future of Pharmacological Research ➡ Institution Builder: At CDRI, she initiated and led the anti-thrombotic drug discovery team, leading to a new chemical entity approved for Phase I clinical trials. At THSTI, she developed programs for drug and biomarker discovery in fatty liver disease. During COVID-19, she led preclinical and pharmacokinetic evaluations of select AYUSH herbal extracts for mitigating SARS-CoV-2 and associated pathologies.
