My prognosis for the Hinge Health IPO is up, but to be fair it's totally based on my the proxy of my experience with their biggest competitor Sword Health. TL:DR There's issues with integration and price... but take a look and find out way more than you need to know about my left knee!--Matthew Holt https://lnkd.in/gzY_fMNY

About us
The Health Care Blog (THCB) is one of the oldest blogs in health care--continuously publishing opinions, news, interviews and podcasts since 2003. We cover the business of health care, health care policy and the technologies that are changing (and in some cases failing to change) medicine. All in a punchy and fun way. Matthew Holt is the first author and publisher, but our contributors have included a who's who of health care including leading academics, industry analysts, health care executives, journalists and patients.

Today we are featuring the new book from George Beauregard, DO about his son Patrick who died in 2020 from colorectal cancer aged just 32, and the stunning uptick in cancer amongst young adults. The book is called Table for Nine and THCB is happy to host a brief summary https://lnkd.in/ghfMxhFx

The ongoing craziness from DOGE continues. Apparently someone with 2 masters degrees and a PhD trying to make hospital care safer is a useless bureaucrat. So Musk has offed her and many more at an agency he's never heard of. Michael Millenson has the story of Heather Sherman, MS MPH PhD's axing from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality https://lnkd.in/gW_wfYKq

Anesthesiologist Matt McCord, MD thinks that the opioid crisis is being continued because of the regular medical care doled out (literally) after surgery, and he has a solution for it https://lnkd.in/gQMjxygh

Wondering how to deal with Musk? Mike Magee tells you the history of the anti-apartheid movement and suggests a parallel https://lnkd.in/g2zKu2_x

We fear that Kim Bellard cannot deal with any more DOGE related insanity, so he's retreated back to an exciting non-political tech development. Can fibers (i.e. clothing) become the ultimate "wearable"? Signs point to yes https://lnkd.in/gFAbYRAS

The decline in cognitive health, especially that leading to Alzheimer’s and other brain diseases, is one of the most feared conditions by patients and their families. It’s also one of the most expensive. But if we can predict it early there are things we can do to prevent or ameliorate it. The issue has been finding an easy and comprehensive way to monitor it as part of primary care. The team at Linus Health has been building a diagnostic solution for exactly that and claims that it’s now the right time to roll it out as part of general primary care. CEO David Bates, John Showalter, Chief Product Officer (a primary care doc) and Alvaro Pascual-Leone, a neurologist and Chief Medical Officer, took Matthew Holt through an extensive end to end demo. This is a long and fascinating look at the state of play in neurology diagnosis, and discussion about what the future of brain health looks like. https://lnkd.in/gVsDMBHE

Health care seems to be perpetually in shortage. How do we make it abundant? Kim Bellard has a few ideas https://lnkd.in/gY24eDyF

Stuart Blitz co-founded Hone Health in the male health online telehealth/pharmacy space in March 2020 (great timing!). It’s now raised real money ($33m last month), has expanded to the other half of the population (women, too!), and is finding a space for itself in the cash-pay space where HIMS, Roman et al are well known. How is that space playing out and what does Stuart think will work? https://lnkd.in/gDyKfRnR
