Yesterday was a day of incredible insights and celebration at The Turing Way Practitioners Hub hosted under Innovate UK BridgeAI and The Alan Turing Institute. We were absolutely blown away by the diversity of ideas and depth of the projects presented. From adopting open source tech for making their teams AI-ready to leveraging collaborative frameworks for AI policies, each case study highlighted the transformative power of principles that The Turing Way champions and the impact we can have when we work together. Highlights of the Day: ⭐ Invited panel with Clare Dillon, Agata Ferretti and Elena Samuylova who showcased CURIOSS, The AI Alliance and Evidently AI and provided tech stack, resources and communities to engage to sustain their AI adoption efforts. 🎤 Real-world impact of open and ethical AI: Our talented cohort of SMEs and partnering organisations took the stage to present compelling case studies, exploratory pieces and tech demonstrating the practical application of open, reproducible, and collaborative practices in AI and Data Science initiatives. 📹 Immersive VR demo by Dillmeadow Media - Imminent XR, presented by Mary Stewart-David and Robert Mark Morgan, and their team. 🙋🏽♀️ Collaborative Success Stories: Ingrid Folland from Japeto and Madalena Alves dos Santos discussed their collaboration in deploying and evaluating chat bot in the Public Sector. The event provided a fantastic opportunity for attendees to connect and learn about each other's work. Especially, we saw firsthand how open and collaborative methodologies are driving innovation across various sectors. A huge thank you to all the presenters and to everyone who attended! Your kindness and support for each other made the event a resounding success. Thanks to my brilliant colleagues Arielle Bennett-Lovell, Léllé Demertzi who have been the main driver for this event, and partners in delivering this cohort. Thank you Vera Matser, Alexandra Araujo Alvarez J., Dominica D'Arcangelo, Batool Almarzouq, Sophie Arana and Giulia Tomba for your support and collaboration. CEO at Japeto | Creating Specialised AI Assistants | Tech for Good Advocate

How can you measure an AI chatbot? Over the past few months, at Japeto we’ve been collaborating with Madalena Alves dos Santos and her Digital Transformation team in Brazil to tackle this challenge. If you're working with a generative AI chatbot, you might be familiar with the usual workflow: build the tool, launch it, apologise for any hiccups, and tweak it if it falls short. But what if your organisation is a critical pipeline for delivering accurate information to a diverse population? In that case, you may need higher standards for quality control. The Digital Transformation team has taken their new AI chatbot to the streets (check out the video) to collect thousands of real conversations. We're working with them to look how various signals and meta data can be used to automatically rate a conversation, what we're calling a "health score". So, why is a health score useful for your AI tool? Because you can: - Track your chatbot's performance over time - Benchmark your chatbot before each release - Define a quality gate before releasing new versions - Quickly identify problems after a chatbot is live This health score will be built into our Japeto Chat platform and we'll also be sharing our results for anyone looking to enhance their own chatbot solutions. Stay tuned! We’ll be presenting our results at the The Turing Way Practitioner's Hub Showcase on March 20. Curious about how this can improve your chatbot’s user experience? Let’s connect before the showcase! Malvika Sharan Jamie Tidman Jonny Coddington Andy Brummitt Léllé Demertzi Arielle Bennett-Lovell

Proud to be part of this project, which will be showcased at The Turing Way! The team has developed a great ‘health score’ algorithm for analysing chatbot conversations, and I’ve been working on the Java implementation. 🤗

    Director - Ada Lovelace Institute

As they say, some news: Join Ada's Senior Team 💪 We're hiring an Associate Director to lead our Emerging Technology & Industry Practice at the Ada Lovelace Institute, to collectively set its agenda and workplan in our next strategy period – to 2029! The team has carved a really interesting niche in translating the world of AI audit, assurance and evals to those who most to need to use and understand them, which will be central to our forthcoming strategy, especially as regards high risk deployments & applications in the public sector. 📣 Might this be you?! - Do you deeply care about societal implications of emerging technologies and what steps can be taken to understand, evidence and mitigate them? - Are you technically knowledgeable about AI, with a proven track record in translating applied research into tangible policy or practice impact? - Are you experienced in managing high-performing teams, and motivated to work as part of a skilled, ambitious, caring and expert senior leadership team? - Are you well connected, with relevant networks across the technology industry and those working responsible AI and governance issues? If so - please be in touch! Very happy to have informal chats and explain more about the process and role. ❓ Why Ada? I genuinely feel lucky to work at Ada, an independent research institute with a mission to ensure data and artificial intelligence work for people and society. We do this by building evidence and fostering rigorous debate on how data and AI affect people and society. We recognise the power asymmetries that exist in ethical and legal debates around the development of data-driven technologies and seek to level those asymmetries by convening diverse voices and creating a shared understanding of the ethical issues arising from data and AI. Finally, we seek to define and inform good practice in the design and deployment of AI technologies.       The Institute has emerged as a leading independent voice on the ethical and societal impacts of data and AI. We have built relationships in the public, private and civil society sectors in the UK and internationally. And, most, importantly we have a skilled, driven, kind, fun, impressive team who are really committed to making a difference. Full details and apply here: https://lnkd.in/dtUGJUkQ by April 28, 2025 As we look for our ETIP Associate Director 2.0, I want to express how grateful I am to Andrew Strait who has been instrumental to the ETIP team and the Ada that we have day. Democratic Innovation for politcal systems change | Knowledge & Practice Lead - Iswe Co-founder Global Citizens' Assembly for People and Planet

🌍✨ Calling all researchers and practitioners working on citizens' assemblies, deliberative democracy, global and transnational deliberation and innovative participatory methods from around the world! ✨🌍 Iswe Foundation and Participedia invite you for an open virtual workshop exploring inclusive and innovative methods for global citizens' assembly selection and recruitment. Since the evaluation of the 2021 Global Assembly was published, various research papers and initiatives have raised questions about sortition selection for global and transnational projects, making it a sensitive topic for discussion. How a deliberative fora selects its participants is a critical foundational choice; it holds deep power and raises questions of legitimacy. In the spirit of openness and collective inquiry, Iswe Foundation and Participedia are convening a process to "deliberate in the open" (i.e. “meta deliberation” of sorts) on what a global selection methodology and its underpinning principles should be for the Global Citizens' Assembly for People and Planet. We're seeking contributions that explore new approaches to participant selection and recruitment that balance legitimacy, diversity, and representation, and that critically engage with ideas like: 🌱 Alternative approaches to random sampling 🌱 Self-descriptive recruitment 🌱 Purposive sampling 🌱 Methods combining equity, diversity, and representation Some guiding questions: 🔍What selection methods should the Global Citizens’ Assembly consider? What are their benefits and shortcomings? 🔍How can selection methods be iteratively combined to address known shortcomings? 🔍How can the Global Citizens Assembly balance equity, discursive diversity, diverse lived experiences of the climate, and geographic diversity in its approach to selection? 🗓 Date: April 23, 2025 ⏰ Time: 12:00pm – 2:00pm EST - Check your local time zone: https://lnkd.in/eTBe5Ct3 📩 Submission Deadline: April 3, 2025 🎟 Register on Eventbrite: https://lnkd.in/epZsmU37 📚 Find out more about the call for participation: https://lnkd.in/e2E_CXgp We welcome 200-word abstract submissions that reflect on lessons from past citizens’ assemblies, propose new methodologies and generative provocations, or explore how different selection principles shape deliberative fora. We are especially interested in those working on transnational deliberation and those engaging with some of the above questions. Send your submission to [email protected] by April 3, 2025. Even if you don’t submit an abstract, you’re warmly invited to join and participate in this open-invitation workshop.
