Suits vs Scrubs - The inaugural cycling event was more than a successful fundraiser for the American Heart Association. It was an opportunity for Trident Health President and Trident Medical Center CEO Jeffrey Wilson; Trident Health’s CMO Jane Appleby, MD, and CFO Kevin McKeown, CPA, CFA; Trident Medical Center COO Maury Baker; cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon James Benner, MD; and anesthesiologist Mark Wimberly, MD to engage in a friendly competition. The event also included teams at our sister hospital, Summerville Medical Center. Dr. Benner’s team won the fundraising competition, but the real winner was the American Heart Association. The event raised nearly $8,000 for the two hour event. Many thanks to Summerville Family YMCA for providing the bikes. And, we appreciate the continued encouragement from HCA Healthcare for us to keep putting the “fun” in fundraising.

This year’s 27th Charleston, SC Black Expo gave us the opportunity to introduce new colleagues and new services to business owners and other residents in the region. It was also an opportunity to watch our teams from Trident Medical Center, HCA Healthcare | South Atlantic Division, and Live Oak Mental Health & Wellness live our mission outside our hospitals and offices - Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life. And, a special “Thank you!” to Trident Health Chief Medical Officer Jane Appleby, MD for joining the special event and encouraging us to continue listening with intent as we talk with people about how we can continue to help them in their journey to wellness - physical and mental. And, we have to give a shout-out to the set up team - Derrick L. Mitchell, DHA, PMP and Amanda Lawrence.

They dressed in blue for colon cancer awareness - Trident Health President and Trident Medical Center CEO Jeffrey Wilson (first photo back row) took the lead in encouraging his team and residents in the Charleston, SC region to know their risk for colon cancer. Today, we joined our colleagues at Summerville Medical Center and across HCA Healthcare to encourage adults to learn more about this mostly preventable disease.

High Five a Hospitalist - In recognition of National Hospitalist Day, we shine the spotlight on Ruth Romero, MD. She and her colleagues throughout Trident Health and HCA Healthcare are among the many specialists who helped us achieve our fourth consecutive America's 250 Best Hospitals award from Healthgrades and second consecutive Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospitals in the US from PINC AI. Dr. Romero was born in Ecuador. Her father is an orthopedic surgeon. She says she always wanted to be a doctor, especially after seeing her father care for his patients. After completing medical school and Residency, she earned a Fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center. Among all of the medical specialties to choose for her career, she says she chose hospitalist because it gave her a wonderful opportunity to be involved in a wide variety of health conditions patients experience while they are hospitalized.

It was a Gullah Geechee-themed celebration as we close out Black History Month 2025. The Gullah Geechee influence on SC’s Lowcountry dates back to the 1700s. Trident Health President and Trident Medical Center CEO Jeffrey Wilson says exploring the rich history of the Charleston, SC region and living where it took place is one of the many benefits of working with us. What partnerships look like - For more than 80 years Trident United Way has led the way in creating healthier tomorrow’s for individuals and families in the SC Lowcountry. It was a memorable morning for our Trident Medical Center, Summerville Medical Center and HCA Healthcare | South Atlantic Division colleagues who volunteered to prepare food boxes. And, thank you to our HCA Healthcare Foundation for providing the $25,000 grant and Trident Health President and Trident Medical m Center CEO Jeffrey Wilson for presenting the check that will be used to reduce food insecurity and promote healthy eating habits.
