About us

United Way of Greater Greensboro is creating a bold movement to end local poverty. Greensboro ranks 31% above the national poverty average. 57,000 Greensboro residents, which includes one out of every four children, lives in poverty. Join us and support our partnerships that work together to help: -Kids succeed in school and life, -Adults learn new skills and land jobs -Seniors access needed care -ENTIRE families thrive. GIVE, ADVOCATE, VOLUNTEER – Local impact for 96 years and counting. The federal government defines poverty as family of four earning $24,600 per year. According to local self-sufficiency standards many four-member households need to earn around $60,000 to meet basic needs without subsidized assistance.

  • In celebration of #211Day, we recognize the invaluable work of NC 211, connecting the Greater Greensboro community and other North Carolinians with essential resources in times of need. In 2024 alone, NC 211 took over 208,000 calls, providing support with everything from rent assistance to disaster recovery.   • The United Way Celebrates Black History Month 2025 and our featured volunteer opportunity for February is the Black Child Development Institute. Volunteers will assist with engaging and educational activities designed to honor Black history and culture. This hands-on opportunity allows volunteers to inspire and support students as they explore the rich heritage of Black leaders, artists, and innovators. Responsibilities: Work directly with students during the activity. Assist with preparation, facilitation, and clean-up. Encourage participation and foster a positive, supportive environment.
