Community Care Connections provides programs and services that empower children and adults with disabilities to live more safely and independently in their communities. Their out-of-school-time program, Camp Apple, is an inclusive recreational program providing a safe and supportive space for children of all abilities to continue their journey in developing life skills and social connections. What an incredible time for a great cause at this year’s Charley Family Shop ‘n Save Shopping Spree —a tradition 15 years strong! We cheered on Megan Loughner, MSMOE from Kennametal, which participates in our workplace campaigns. Megan raced through the aisles, gathering more than $800 in nonperishable goods for the Welcome Home Shelter, operated by our partner agency Connect Inc. We're shining the spotlight on one of our Community Food Solutions grant recipients, Garfield Community Farm! For the past 15 years, they've been transforming nearly three acres of abandoned urban land into one of Pittsburgh's most productive and vibrant urban farms. Their Food and Knowledge to the People project is creating a community allotment garden and offering workshops that provide fresh produce, food-growing and preservation skills and hands-on mentorship. This initiative empowers individuals and families to grow their own food and become more self-sufficient.
