Jimmy Carter, 39th President of the United States, was the first American President born in a hospital in 1924. In 1978, President Carter was the first to proclaim November as National Hospice & Palliative Care Month. In February 2023, at the age of 98, President Carter, the oldest former President in history, made a deeply personal decision to enter hospice care at home, a choice that would allow him to embrace the final chapter of his life surrounded by loved ones. Thank you Mr. President for sharing your testament to hospice care and the most precious gift it can offer—the gift of quality time, filled with love, dignity, and connection.
