The Arizona edition of the April Irrigation Leader is here! This month’s cover story is a detailed interview with Ronald Allison, the general manager of the Gila River Indian Irrigation and Drainage District, and David DeJong, the director of the Pima-Maricopa Irrigation Project, two agencies directly involved in building out and operating the irrigation infrastructure of the Gila River Indian Community. We hear from them about the final stages of constructing a system that will be able to convey water to up to 90,000 acres as well as work on managed aquifer recharge, solar-over-canal systems, canal lining and piping, and more. https://bit.ly/42b0EzO #IrrigationLeader #Irrigation #GilaRiver #ArizonaWater #ArizonaIrrigation

Check out our article on OceanWell Water and the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District partnering to pioneer subsea desalination from our April issue. Whenever a major desalination project is considered, the most significant challenges are energy costs and brine disposal. A new technology pioneered by OceanWell Water—subsea reverse osmosis (SRO)—promises to change that: By moving the reverse osmosis (RO) process into the ocean itself at a depth of 400 meters (1,312 feet), it makes use of the natural hydrostatic pressure of the surrounding water and produces a much less concentrated brine. This ingenious technology holds great potential for Southern California municipalities that are largely dependent on drought-vulnerable State Water Project (SWP) supplies. One of these is the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District (LVMWD), which is entering into a public-private partnership to turn OceanWell’s concepts into an operational reality, with possible long-term benefits for Southern California, the Colorado River basin, and the world. https://bit.ly/42dIw8o #MunicipalWaterLeader #MunicipalWater #OceanWell #Desalination #WaterResources

The April edition of Municipal Water Leader is here! Everyone involved in desalination knows that energy costs and brine disposal are among the process’s top challenges. But what if those issues could be solved? That is the promise of OceanWell ’s subsea reverse osmosis technology, which uses the natural hydrostatic pressure of the ocean to carry out desalination underwater and discharge heavily diluted brine that poses no risk to aquatic life. OceanWell has entered a public-private partnership with Southern California’s Las Virgenes Municipal Water District to pilot this exciting technology. https://bit.ly/3Rtt3Mq #MunicipalWaterLeader #MunicipalWater #OceanWell #Desalination #WaterResources

Check out our article on from skateboards to center pivots: Shark Wheel reinvents age-old wheel technology for agriculture from our March issue. Shark Wheel’s cofounders were featured on the hit television show Shark Tank, kickstarting their skateboard and longboard wheels. After 5 years of R&D, Shark Wheel Agriculture was launched in 2023 to bring innovation to an industry that needed a significantly improved airless tire solution. On the first test run, the Shark Wheel, which mimics nature’s most efficient form of motion, the sine wave, showed best-in-industry rutting performance. Now, there are thousands of Shark Wheels on pivots rolling in farming fields around the world. In this interview, CEO and Cofounder Zack Fleishman tells Irrigation Leader how Shark Wheel has checked all the boxes for center-pivot irrigation tire needs with a design that will minimize ruts, never go flat, and flex to protect machinery. https://bit.ly/4iX7jV5 #IrrigationLeader #Irrigation #SharkWheel #AgricultureTech #IrrigationTech #IrrigatedAg

Check out our article on M8 Systems: automated irrigation solutions in California's Central Valley from our March issue. When an avocado farmer told Max Safai that he was looking for a way to automatically detect leaks in his drip lines, Mr. Safai put his deep background in technology to work to solve the problem. In 2019, he founded M8 Systems to deliver an expanding range of irrigation automation solutions to growers in California’s Central Valley. In this interview, Mr. Safai and M8 Senior Advisor Gary Conover talk with Irrigation Leader about the company’s cloud-based solutions. https://bit.ly/4kTwo5f #IrrigationLeader #Irrigation #M8Systems #CaliforniaIrrigation #DripIrrigation

Check out our article on Trent Lewis of AquaInject and the future of canal vegetation control from our March issue. The Bureau of Reclamation’s 2022–2024 Veg Out competition called for novel, scalable ideas for managing aquatic vegetation in irrigation canals. It recently awarded first prize to AquaInject, which employs Internet of Things (IoT) technology to remotely deliver precise amounts of herbicide to treat aquatic vegetation, monitor flow and water quality, and automate injections. That can mean savings in labor and product costs. In this interview, Irrigation Leader talks with Trent Lewis, the founder and chief visionary officer of PondMedics, the parent company of AquaInject, about the device that may soon help irrigators get out of the weeds so they can go with the flow. https://bit.ly/4kIgqL4 #IrrigationLeader #Irrigation #AquaInject #BureauofReclamation #CanalVegetation

Check out our article on Jim Schmidt on North Dakota's water progress and challenges from our March issue. Jim Schmidt, a former member of the North Dakota House of Representatives, has spent nearly 43 years in water, and his focus for most of that time has been on keeping North Dakota’s water supply available and affordable. That can be a challenge in a state where half the people live in small, rural communities with shrinking populations. In this interview, Mr. Schmidt reflects on his water accomplishments in the state legislature and on statewide advances, which include the construction of a series of regional water systems funded by oil revenue. He also talks about the Missouri River Educate, Advocate, and Engage (EAE) program, an effort led by the Missouri River Joint Water Board (MRJWB) to educate legislators and others on the value of the Missouri River. https://bit.ly/4bN49B5 #IrrigationLeader #NorthDakotaIrrigation #NorthDakotaWater #WaterResources
