Assistant Professor & Director of Education and Outreach | Attuned to Spinal Cord Injury | Science Is, Scientists Ought
Honored to be presenting at the Aspen Public Radio + Healing Advocacy Fund + Aspen Psychedelic Resource Center 2024 Aspen Psychedelic Symposium, hosted at the Wheeler Opera House emceed by Zach Leary. Our panel—including Jim Harris, Rachel Zoeller, Manesh Girn, and myself—on neuropharmacology will be one of three panels to unfold on Friday. While details are still in the works, I plan once again to invoke the often overlooked somatic aspects of serotonergic substances. As is the way I'll start from the ethos of harm reduction, highlighting a rare but meaningful side effect specific to a population of people with a neurological condition that predisposes them to a rare form of pharmacological toxicity. A hazard manifest in a manner unseen in virtually any other group. Zooming out, I intend also to challenge the audience with an imperative that illuminates a blind spot in the modern efforts in academic psychedelia... consider effects beyond the brain and mind. Consider, in my case, the cord (and rest of the body, for that matter). In what I am sure is no coincidence, I'll be on a panel with two people who ought to be able to speak (I imagine... again, the details have yet to be confirmed) from lived experience as to the somatic manifestations of what are commonly—and falsely, dare I say—thought of as mental agents. Also presenting Sandor Iron Rope Gül Dölen Kevin F. Talia Eisenberg, MBA Tom Feegel Dr. Lola O Ohonba, PHARM.D. Stéphane Lasme Rick Doblin Joe Moore Diane Goldstein Sarko Gergerian James Eshleman Claudia Barfoot, MA, LPC, LMHC Rebecca Martinez Sovereign Oshumare & others.
