While we don't know if it will transform every business process driving operational efficiencies, create new revenue streams, result in massive productivity improvements, and curtail costs, the early signs are encouraging for pilot projects.

The secret to successful AI implementations? Worker voice When stakeholders become more involved in generative AI design and implementation, it’s more likely that such tools will augment work rather than displace workers. As organizations begin to understand the capabilities and effects of generative artificial intelligence, a group of MIT experts hopes a new framework for technology design and implementation will inspire leaders to include worker voice in their decision-making. In a new paper, “Bringing Worker Voice Into Generative AI,” the researchers explain that generative AI is “well-suited to bottom-up development and use.” They also contend that the more that stakeholders are involved in defining the problems and opportunities the technology can address, “the more likely it is that these tools will be used to augment how workers do their jobs rather than displace them.” The paper was written by Thomas A. Kochan, Ben Armstrong, Julie Shah, Emilio J. Castilla, Ben Likis, and Martha E. Mangelsdorf, all of MIT. It draws on more than 50 interviews with academics, business managers, AI experts, and labor leaders and is also guided by the researchers’ earlier work. “I know from prior work that I’ve done in automation and robotics, the most successful applications of automation were those where the engineers were working side by side with those on the shop floor or those with the domain expertise,” said Shah, professor and department head at the MIT Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics, in an interview. “The opportunity here is to follow that same playbook so that generative AI can have the positive outcomes that we hope it will have.” Here’s a closer look at the four stages of technology design and implementation where leaders should solicit input from their workers. https://lnkd.in/dPdYanTW By Meredith Somers

Some of the key takeaways that resonated with me: - Thanks to AI, Expertise will become nearly free and widely accessible. ☁ Last week Sai Senthilkumar and I presented the Redpoint InfraRed Report on how cloud infra & AI have shaped software & public markets in 2024! ⬇ Here are 10 takeaways and the full report: 1. Public infra companies are guiding lower. Almost half of public infra companies lowered their guidance last quarter. 2. These new expectations are reflected in the data with declining NDR (119% > 116%) & new bookings growth (16% > 13%). 3. After slowing in Q2'22, growth is rebounding across all public clouds in the past 3 quarters (Q3'23 - Q1'24). Represents MASSIVE investments from enterprises to move businesses at this scale. 4. AI is major driver of increase in cloud spending. 5. "Generative AI is the single most significant platform transition in computer history." - Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia. We are at the early stages of a platform shift to AI, which will completely transform how we build applications. 6. Training and inference costs are down. Training costs down 10x: $600k to train stable diffusion in Sep'22 now costs < $50k. Inference costs down 10x: from $0.006/1k tokens for Curie generations in Jan'22 to $0.0005/1k in April'23. 7. AI is getting smarter, cheaper and more accessible. This is leading to an explosion in developers building AI applications and driving the need for AI-specific tooling. 8. Consolidation in the data stack is putting pressure on point solutions. Both Snowflake and Databricks have been very active on the acquisition front this last year, most recently with Databricks acquiring Tabular for $1B+. 9. Coding with AI is now mainstream. 76% of devs use or expect to use an AI coding assistant. 84% of developers using an AI coding assistant use ChatGPT. 10. Wave of consolidation in the security stack as well. Gavin Uberti (CEO Etched) is another talented Harvard drop out, who is betting on a silicon model of accelerated compute which only runs transformers. A great (very narrow) strategy which will have a 20x hardware performance advantage over NVidia Blackwell architecture. No details on their software stack strategy, unlikely to match NVIDIA Cuda. HOWEVER, if the industry move on from Transformers as the central tenet of AI models, Etched will be in a very bad place indeed. The threats and risks to NVIDIA investors starting to emerge. If we also consider that NVIDIA is trading at 21 times forward PS ratio, (Microsoft only 11 times) these are risks to the NASDAQ as a whole.
