✅𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐈 𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐲 𝐅𝐀𝐀𝐍𝐆 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 👩💻 During my FAANG interview, I learned an invaluable lesson that completely changed how I approach technical challenges—I wasn’t asking enough clarifying questions.💯 📍Here’s what happened: In one of the technical rounds, I was given a problem that appeared straightforward. Feeling confident, I started coding immediately without taking the time to fully grasp the requirements. Halfway through, I realized my solution wasn’t working as expected. It turned out I had misunderstood a key aspect of the problem. Thankfully, the interviewers were supportive. They encouraged me to pause, ask thoughtful questions, and reevaluate my approach. With their guidance, I restructured my solution and was able to recover.💯 This experience taught me that technical interviews at companies like FAANG aren’t just about solving problems. They’re about 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐦 under pressure. 📍Here’s my advice for anyone preparing for a tech interview: 👉 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦 𝐅𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲: Take your time to ask clarifying questions upfront. From the Singleton pattern ensuring a single instance, to the Factory pattern promoting flexibility in object creation, design patterns aren’t just textbook concepts. You think that's a good way to get a coding job?!?! Yikes! Last week, a guy posted on social media how he really needed a coding job because he was nearly broke. He posted something like: "Section 174 U.S. tax law changes caused tech layoffs and now I can't get a coding job!" His solution? Spend a bunch of time advocating and trying to mobilize social media for the repeal of this U.S. tax law. Is he serious? The bank is coming to foreclose on his house and his solution is throw his time, energy, heart and soul into changing U.S. law?!?! Lots of unemployed coders jumped on board to cheer him on, weigh in and spend their own time and energy to advocate and discuss changing U.S. law instead of, well, looking for a coding job. The Internet is amazing to me. On the one hand, the Internet has brought so much free information and training so that people can learn how to code. Coding job listings are posted right there on the Internet for all the world to see and apply to. Amazing! It's the easiest, cheapest and as accessible as it's ever been in history to: 1. Learn to code. 2. Find coding jobs to apply to. 3. Have a coding career! On the other hand, the Internet has also brought a lot of ideas and activities that, if you do them, will 100% kill your chances of getting a coding job. While finding jobs is as accessible as it's ever been, finding feel-good, stupid, time-wasting, impossible ideas and activities that will delay and end achieving your goals (and make you feel good about doing it!) are as accessible as ever, too. When you are applying for jobs, you feel frustrated and invisible. Nobody pays attention to you. It sucks. But, when you post on social media about certain topics, you feel empowered and celebrated. Everybody is paying attention to you and approving of you. Topics like: 1. Software engineer unions. 2. U.S. laws that caused tech layoffs. 3. That software engineering should be a licensed profession. 4. Outsourcing and offshoring of tech jobs. 5. Interest rates and inflation that caused tech layoffs. Getting sucked into these topics and the rush of good feelings that they bring is really dangerous. They are dangerous because they are luring you into activities that take you in the wrong direction and away from getting a coding job. They make you feel like you are spending time productively but, really, you are headed towards incompetence, obsolescence and unemployment. It's a maze. There are paths to a coding job and a coding career. But there are also many paths that go nowhere and lead to a dead end. It's harder than ever to stay on the paths to a coding job and a coding career. I'll guide you through. #Careers #Programming #Fresher

It seems like most software development posts are looking for 2-8 years of experience in a tiny slice of the industry, such as full stack developer (web dev) or python careerist. Even a middleman, crossover, who says they're looking for top candidates, has positions of this type. I'm sure they have good reasons for posting applications like this, but it's the opposite of what you want to do if you want to fish for top candidates or breadth of experience, as time does not correlate well with skill or raw talent, and breadth requires walking between roles. I could definitely use more insight in this to help with job searching.
