Building on the expansive take for software industry, Are we at the cusp of 3rd stage of software play in enterprises? Stage 1 - Recruit software engineers and then build ( manage) custom software which does core and non-core of my business. This phase got optimized with Indian IT services companies using extended workday and abundant skills at lean price-points. Stage 2 - Buy the products off the shelf (with some customization for my business) for some (mostly non core but increasingly core) part of my business. This got optimized with products moving to cloud and maturing SAAS offerings. Stage 3 - Create custom software using AI Agents which are core to business which are just having features/functionality for me. As the marginal cost of code creation is tending to zero( (or at least to cost of compute/storage), why pay for product features which i do not use? Is the stage is set for next gen IT services companies which will help enterprises to move from stage 1/2 to stage 3? #AIagents #edgeverve

Interesting to think about how agent-based AI avoids becoming "the next RPA" in the enterprise. First of all, if agent-based AI grows quickly, it'll create unprecedented pressure on vendors to create better, publicly documented, APIs. AI is great at code-gen, so interfacing will be easy - but only with good APIs. We can't do this "through the user interface" again, even if it's tempting. Secondly, along the lines of "there is nothing new under the sun", governance at scale and change management in lines of business are the constraining factors. Governance to figure out what's going on and pull up a distributed trace a year later when the auditor asks. And change management because, well, the ability to rethink and redesign process, swat aside blockers, and roll out at scale is in very, very, very, very very... ... very very ... ... very short supply.

If we do not decouple these, you can imagine the hindrance in the development of the observability landscape. There are some really useful products, but they are using (or abusing?) this very fact that it is not decoupled yet, thus harder to replace. Ensuring that these components have their own parallel growth provides each institution the means to build observability which bends to their infrastructure not another way around. Small language models and Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning (PEFT) methods like LoRA and GaLoRe offer an ideal solution: training cycles cost only $20, making enterprise fine-tuning remarkably affordable. Single GPUs can run over 60 LoRA adapters, providing a cost-effective, modular experience. This approach cuts costs by 10x while boosting throughput by 80% compared to GPT-4. Latency improves dramatically—from 2 seconds to 0.1 seconds. The ability to serve hundreds of LoRA adapters enables additional enterprise-grade benefits: gradual and blue-green rollouts, simplified A/B testing without infrastructure overhead, and regional fine-tuning for cultural and legislative differences.
