🌎 Thrilled to have contributed to the recently released report, Wired for Savings, in collaboration with EE Analysis and DHInfrastructure! Mario DePillis Denzel Hankinson California’s journey toward climate targets hinges on expanding its electrical transmission infrastructure. Yet, traditional financing through investor-owned utilities could drive costs for consumers sharply upwards. This research, commissioned by Net-Zero California and Clean Air Task Force, delves into the California Independent System Operator’s 20-Year Outlook, identifying ways to mitigate ratepayer costs through innovative financing models. Notably, a public-private partnership (PPP) approach could reduce transmission costs by as much as $123 billion over the next 40 years. Strategies like low-cost public debt, competitive bidding, and public ownership could lower costs while accelerating project timelines. Our findings underscore the importance of rethinking how we finance energy infrastructure to ensure it’s sustainable and affordable.
