In my role as SEO strategist at Epic Marketing Consultants Corporation and as the program director and instructor at University of Delaware Professional & Continuing Studies for digital marketing, I spend a lot of time with SEO and what impacts SERP ranking. Recently, while working on SEO for a client, they asked us to include AIO results as part of their SEO strategy. That led me to a new study just released by SE Ranking. I was pleased to see that their research gives credence to what my hunch was. ➡️ Focus on organic SEO and the AIO will follow. The SE Ranking study found that AI overviews often incorporate links from top-ranking organic search results: 📊 93.67% of AI overviews linked to at least one domain from the top 10 organic search results. 📊 56.50% of all detected links in AI overviews matched search results from the top 1-100, with most (73.01%) linking to the top 1-10 search results. Want your website to be sourced for an AI overview? Work to rank organically. The study includes lots of other great info that I will share with thoughts in the coming days. But this is where I intend to start for our clients. Focus on nailing the three pillars of SEO — technical, on page, off site — and let the AI overlords see your site as the EEAT source.

It's obvious that given impending changes in the marketing landscape (like cookie deprecation) that zero and first party data have become more critical for cost-effective conversion.   But to us at University of Phoenix, it's much more than that.   It's about privacy and honoring people's preferences.    Zero party data means that people willingly give you permission to engage with them because you have offered enough value in return for the privilege.   It's a statement of who you are and what your brand stands for.
