I do not agree with some of the conclusions in this article. Higher Ed, like any other organization would pay less to get into the cloud than to recover from a breach. The value of moving to the cloud with proper cybersecurity hygiene is higher than the risk of not moving to the cloud and paying ransom or recovering manually (and paying for credit monitoring). To me, the investment return and the value return are no-brainers. Furthermore, CISA offers states grants for state-run institutions. Private higher ed has the money to do it. And with respect to the staffing issue, many institutions have implemented a hybrid of students and employees very successfully.

Today I’m bringing good news if you use Windows 10. Microsoft has FINALLY lifted the compatibility hold that was stopping some PCs from upgrading to Windows 11. If you've been waiting to make the move to the latest (and greatest) operating system, now might be your chance. Back in 2021, Microsoft and Intel discovered some compatibility issues with Intel Smart Sound Technology on certain 11th Gen Core processors running Windows 11. It led to a compatibility hold being placed on affected systems, stopping them from upgrading. But Microsoft has fixed the bug, and now these PCs can join the Windows 11 party. So, how do you know if your PC can finally upgrade? Update its Intel SST drivers, and you should be good to go. Just keep in mind that it can take up to 48 hours for the upgrade option to appear after the driver update. Be patient and resist the urge to hit that 'Update now' button until everything's good to go. Two things to remember. First this isn’t a policy change from Microsoft about the minimum requirements for Windows 11; it’s just a bug fix for some PCs that had a problem. Not every older PC is compatible with the new OS. And second, remember Windows 10 support is ending in October next year. So If you’ve been thinking about moving over to Windows 11, now's the perfect time. ⚠️ Attention School Admins! I think i have found a bug within OneDrive after the July Cumulative Update (KB5040442) ⚠️ Upon testing out our latest builds I found OneDrive was syncing my entire directory to the device(s) causing the C: Drive to fill up, despite files on demand being turned on. This appears to be an issue with OneDrive Build 24.146.0721 which is installed when a device gets the 2024-07 update. This could cause problems with your school if you use OneDrive and have a large number of files in there. I'm not sure if this is widespread or just us but I've developed a quick fix which has resolved the problems for me until MS offer a proper fix. If you have 5 mins, check your devices to see if you see the same issues. I have confirmed the issue doesn't arise before the July update, but soon as its updated the problem starts.
