What an amazing feeling when we honor our unique individuality and enrich our lives and the lives of those around us. Self-love, on the other hand, involves cultivating a deep sense of care, acceptance, and appreciation for oneself. It’s recognizing and honoring our worth, strengths, and inherent value as individuals. When we practice self-love, we open ourselves up to a world of possibilities and allow ourselves to live authentically. We're all aware of the positive impact regular exercise has on both our mental and physical well-being. However, with packed schedules, finding time to prioritize exercise can be a challenge. For many of us, especially those who aren't keen on early mornings, the evening becomes the only viable option. While conventional wisdom often suggests starting the day with a workout, an increasing number of studies indicate that exercising in the evening doesn't necessarily affect our ability to sleep; instead, it can help us unwind and manage stress effectively. Research also suggests that evening exercise carries a reduced risk of mortality, cardiovascular disease, and microvascular disease, particularly among adults dealing with obesity, including those with type 2 diabetes. What's crucial is integrating workouts into our routines and selecting exercises that suit our fitness levels and health conditions. As women's sports thrive in growth, viewers, and support, there still is one major gap: female athletes' health is underserved and underprioritized. While many clubs and organizations recognize the importance of addressing areas like: • Menstrual health • Breast health • Pelvic floor function • Nutrition and disordered eating behaviors • Injury prevention • Fertility and planned parenthood • Pregnancy with players, • Female life stages … they often lacked the resources to build effective frameworks from scratch.\ Supporting female athletes isn’t just a performance advantage—it’s a duty of care. Grit & Growth I believe that Grit and a Growth Mindset are deeply interconnected through EFFORT. Grit, as defined by Angela Duckworth, combines passion and perseverance towards long-term goals. A growth mindset, coined by Carol Dweck, is the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication and hard work. Look at what each has said about ‘effort’: “Effort is one of those things that gives meaning to life. Effort means you care about something, that something is important to you, and you are willing to work for it.” — Carol S. Dweck “Without effort, your talent is nothing more than unmet potential. Without effort, your skill is nothing more than what you could have done but didn't.” — Angela Duckworth, Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance In essence, it sounds like a Growth Mindset requires effort as a pathway to improvement and achievement. And, Grit is the sustained application of this effort over time, driven by passion and perseverance. Early in her career, Oprah faced countless obstacles. She was fired from her first television job as an anchor at a Baltimore TV station, with the criticism that she “wasn’t fit for TV.” But rather than giving up, Oprah used this failure as fuel for growth. She went on to host a local talk show in Chicago, which wasn’t an immediate success either. The ratings were low, and many thought her career in television would be short-lived. However, Oprah didn't let those setbacks define her. She kept showing up, stayed true to her vision, and worked on honing her craft. Over time, her show gained popularity, and eventually, "The Oprah Winfrey Show" became a cultural phenomenon, lasting 25 years and making Oprah one of the most influential women in the world. What sets Oprah’s story apart is her patience and ability to believe in her potential, even when others doubted her. She didn’t rush her journey—she trusted the process, knowing that her time would come. Our identity is a complex mosaic woven from our beliefs, values, roles, and titles, yet none of these pieces alone fully capture the essence of our true self. So, how do we differentiate between the real 'me' and the labels we carry? Our beliefs and values form the foundation of our identity, guiding our decisions and actions. They are deeply personal and evolve over time through our experiences and reflections. While these elements are integral to who we are, they do not entirely define us. They are the lenses through which we view the world. The Role of Titles and Roles Titles and roles, on the other hand, are external markers of our identity. They provide a sense of structure and belonging in society, whether it’s being a manager, a parent, or an artist. However, these titles can sometimes obscure our true selves. We might find ourselves confined by the expectations and responsibilities they bring, losing sight of our authentic desires and feelings. Discovering Your Authentic Self The "real you" lies at the intersection of your innermost thoughts, feelings, and sense of purpose. It is the essence of who you are, independent of external validation or social roles. To uncover this authentic self, engage in deep self-reflection. October is "Health Literacy Month": Established in 1999 in the US to emphasize the significance of "health literacy". Why it is important? Because limited health literacy can have negative impacts on health and can affect all of us. What exactly does it mean? People should be able to find, understand, and use information and services to make informed decisions about their health. Currently in Germany, there are several health literacy campaigns aiming to improve the population's understanding of health information and to promote healthier behaviors. One such campaign is the National Action Plan for Health Literacy (https://lnkd.in/dVA-y8kj), which focuses on improving health literacy among different population groups and in various settings, such as schools, workplaces, and healthcare facilities. I am proud that at #MSDDeutschland, we have long been committed to clear communication, making our information more accessible and understandable for consumers, patients, and the public. My loved one had a 13th #medication added to their regimen today in their recovery after a major illness. With multiple hospitalists, 4 specialists, 1 PCP, & 1 NP all writing scrips, it's a struggle to maintain accurate records from one visit to another. We find ourselves being the ones keeping med records accurate.
