Pipeline Safety is a topic of conversation whenever any pipelines are being proposed. At Polyguard Products, Inc. we manufacture protective coatings to keep pipelines safe. For those of us in tribology, there is a certain level of confidence that field trials give that can not be replaced by any other tests. With field trials, you can see exactly how the additive performs in a real life situation. CORE Linepipe Optimizes Shipping to Save Customers Thousands Greg Henry, VP of Engineering at CORE Linepipe, explained a new approach to addressing customer concerns about shipping inefficiencies. On an early project, 12” steel bends were sometimes shipped individually, requiring both a dedicated truck and pilot vehicles. This process was costly, with truckloads averaging ~$8,000 and pilot vehicles adding ~$4,000 per trip.   To tackle this issue, CORE developed an innovative loading strategy. In a recent shipment, the team successfully loaded three 12” diameter, 90-degree bends and two 12” diameter, smaller angle bends onto a single truck, significantly improving efficiency and reducing costs.   This enhancement means CORE customers can now save substantially on shipping costs. By refining its processes, CORE Linepipe reaffirms its commitment to delivering smarter, more cost-effective solutions that enhance customer value.

How do you keep track of your assets? Kloeckner Metals, a steel manufacturer based in Tulsa, was struggling to keep track of assets and equipment in their facility and operation. This led to several operational bottlenecks that affected the company's ability to perform at optimal levels. A lot of time was spent daily searching for equipment and inventory. They started to look for a location-based solution and after some trial and error found one with RTV Engineering, powered by Quuppa, that eliminated the need to manually search for equipment and products on site. Waco, Texas, is experiencing significant growth with major investments that are set to boost the local economy and create numerous job opportunities. Electrolit, a leading hydration beverage company, has announced plans to build its first U.S. production facility in Waco. The $400 million, 600,000-square-foot state-of-the-art plant will be located in Texas Central Park and is expected to open in early 2026. On Friday I yet again encountered the typical conundrum I face while trying to pitch an equipment upgrade. Customer: "We can't trial REXA, Inc. on this application because it's process critical* and we've been dogged with issues for years**." And yet I do understand where he's coming from, it's a tough choice, I don't know all the history of what has gone before, what has made someone more averse to change or even just plain defeated. But, the right choice is an ultimately rewarding one. Drill, Baby, Drill is a pretty awesome slogan There’s something to be said for an energy policy that can fit on a T-shirt. The slogan was first used by Michael Steele, the former lieutenant governor of Maryland, during his speech at the 2008 Republican National Convention. It was probably Sarah Palin who really popularised it, during her vice presidential debate against Joe Biden the same year But it was actually a few years later, during the Biden administration the US set a new record, producing more crude oil than any nation at any time. That’s right. More than 13 million barrels per day. What Drill, Baby, Drill, actually means maybe isn’t super clear. “I'm not sure how drill, baby, drill translates into policy”, says Darren Woods, the CEO of Exxon. But, for the sake of argument, let’s just say it’s a policy to increase oil supply to unknown heights. Would that benefit oil companies? Let’s go back to the good old days of 2014. That year US oil production hit 9 million barrels per day. It was growing quickly, thanks to the shale revolution. And the oil price? It collapsed. From $115 to $57 over a few months. Weakening global demand, and the decision by OPEC to defend their market share at the expense of prices, led to a supply glut. As we know, this bust was later followed by another boom. That’s the story of our industry. These days it’s hard to see the fundamentals of supply and demand supporting increased production. There is already excess capacity among US producers. Which is why many think oil production will mainly be driven by market dynamics, and less so by politics. Where do you think the oil market is heading?
