The National HBCU Business Deans Roundtable is proud to highlight the Baltimore Ravens' recent initiative that provided journalism students from Hampton University and Morgan State University with an immersive learning experience at their training facility. This collaboration between the Ravens and these Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) is a stellar example of how real-world exposure and mentorship can profoundly impact the professional development of HBCU business students. During the visit, junior and senior students explored various disciplines within an NFL organization, including public and community relations, business intelligence, writing, social media, production, marketing, and operations. This hands-on learning opportunity offered students a comprehensive view of the multifaceted operations behind a major sports franchise, aligning perfectly with the educational objectives of HBCU business programs. For HBCU business students, such initiatives are invaluable. They provide a bridge between academic theories and real-world applications, allowing students to see how their studies in business, marketing, and management can translate into dynamic careers in industries like sports and entertainment. The engagement with industry professionals also helps students build essential skills such as networking, critical thinking, and strategic communication, which are crucial for success in any business environment. The National HBCU Business Deans Roundtable encourages other NFL teams, corporations, and organizations to consider similar partnerships with HBCUs. These collaborations not only enrich the educational experiences of HBCU students but also foster diversity and inclusion within industries that benefit from a wide range of perspectives and talents. As I prepare for graduation 🎓 from the esteemed Kennesaw State University, I can't help but take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey I've had interning with the Georgia Department of Administrative Services. These past months have been a whirlwind of learning and growth as I've delved deep into the inner workings of the public sector and gained invaluable insights into the world of government communications. Last summer, my journey with UPS gave me a vibrant introduction to the world of communications, and since then, my time at DOAS has been an enriching continuation of that journey. From refining my editing and writing skills to crafting engaging social media promotions, I've had the chance to dive into various aspects of communication. During my internship, I've had the chance to acquire new skills across various platforms such as Mailchimp, Site Improve, and Drupal (User Testing), while also expanding my expertise in digital marketing, communication strategy, and graphic design. One of the highlights of my experience has been leading the charge on the Georgia Department of Administrative Services' social media presence. Whether brainstorming creative promotions or carefully curating content calendars, I've taken immense pride in driving awareness and engagement for the organization through strategic social media initiatives. I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunities this internship has provided me with and the experiences that have shaped me professionally. As I continue my path, I can't wait to take these newfound skills and insights with me on the next exciting chapter of my career!! #careerdevelopment #graduation #reflection

Think and Lead? More like Think, Learn, and Network! Today, I had the opportunity to attend the first session of NC State's Think & Lead seminar series as a proud MEM grad student, and WOW—it was one of the reasons I chose this program! Kicking off the sem in style was none other than Dr. Sarah Glova, who shared her brilliant insights on networking in Research Triangle Park. Her advice? "Connect to discover, not to acquire!" She dropped a game-changer: networking isn’t about collecting “tickets” like you’re at an arcade, looking for instant gratification. It’s about sharing stories—because, as Sarah put it, "stories are just data with a soul." Takeaways: 🔄 Networking is not transactional, it's relational! 🎤 Sharing stories at networking events? It's the secret sauce! 📍 There are SO many networking opportunities beyond career fairs—think conferences, community events, and even casual meetups! With career fairs just around the corner, this was exactly the boost I needed to approach networking with a fresh perspective! Big thanks to Dr. Sarah Glova for the inspiring session and to the NC State Engineering Management department, Dr Brandon McConnell,Miss Kalene Thomas for putting out these Think & Lead seminars. Last week, I had the opportunity to attend the Black In Tech Networking Event hosted by Be Nimble Foundation and Mentors Of Color. I went with my friend Julius Choga and we both found the event to be outstanding. I want to extend a big thanks to the panel for providing invaluable advice suitable for both newcomers and seasoned professionals alike. As someone who enjoys taking notes when learning from those with advanced skills, I'd like to share some key takeaways: 1. Become a forward thinker: Think strategically and anticipate problems your company may face, proactively finding solutions before they arise. 2. Understand people's needs: Establish how others can rely on your strengths and expertise. 3. Embrace discomfort: Growth often occurs in challenging and unfamiliar situations. 4. Develop transferable skills: Strengthen abilities that can be applied across various roles and industries. 5. Overcome imposter syndrome: Reflect on your achievements and the steps taken to reach your current position. If you've earned your place, you are qualified. Most importantly, remember to keep learning, even if it's at a surface level. Don't hesitate to ask questions and always stay true to yourself.

We may be on the verge of witnessing the nation's first Black female President. For many women, the journey is fraught with obstacles, resembling a battlefield of challenges and setbacks. Women are increasingly facing barriers that hinder their professional advancement, depriving them of the opportunity to showcase their full potential. This form of violation instills fear, making it difficult for women to speak out, as they worry about not being believed. Similar to victims of any injustice, women need to be heard and supported. Here are some crucial steps to take when someone confides in you: - Show empathy and understanding - Believe them, as disbelief is a major barrier to action - Respect their need for time and space - Assure them they are not ALONE - Recommend seeking immediate support like counseling or medical assistance (stress is a silent killer) - Maintain confidentiality and respect their privacy - Empower them to make their own decisions without imposing your views - Take care of yourself and acknowledge your boundaries as a friend or colleague Let's work together to foster a safe and supportive environment where everyone can grow and succeed without the fear of discrimination. #Support #BelieveSurvivors
