This report draws on data from 83 wide-format printing producers who participated in the PRINTING United Alliance State of the Industry Survey for the first quarter of 2024. The surveyed companies have annual sales ranging from under $1 million to over $100 million. The research underscores the industry's convergence, with 85% of companies branching into other specialties. Furthermore, 56.6% of respondents are commercial printing companies that have ventured into the wide-format market. Topics covered include trends in sales, operating costs, profitability, and other key performance metrics throughout the first quarter of 2024, as well as projections for the entire year. The report also addresses the primary concerns of wide-format printing providers and the ongoing shift from analog to digital technologies. Additionally, it highlights the advantages of sustainability practices and the integration of artificial intelligence within the wide-format printing sector. Great article from Wide-Format Impressions. As wide-format printing technology has evolved, adding additional capabilities and opportunities for producers to differentiate and seek higher margins, the range of applications that can be produced has expanded in kind. One of the newer opportunities available for wide-format PSPs and their customers is the ability to print textures or finishes, offering a tactile and/or visual “bonus” when compared to flat printing on a flat substrate. Wide-format Impressions explores this opportunity with three OEMs whose systems offer printed finishes or textures. Patrick Donigain, senior marketing manager at Canon USA says the dollar per square foot for textures can bring a significantly higher margin, and notes that while texture printing is much slower than flat printing, those textured prints can be “worth a lot of money.” He says braille printing in particular can be an excellent opportunity for higher margins, but urges anyone entering that space to become well-versed in the regulations and requirements for its production. #CanonProductionPrinting #LargeFormatGraphics #ElevatedPrinting #CanonColorado #CanonArizona #FLXture #PRISMAelevate #PRISMAguideXL

The cost of full-color printing depends on the printing process used. If you operate an in-house printing facility for insurance documents, your output will always be expensive, and the cost will depend on the equipment you use. High-speed inkjet printers that print dynamically can produce the output in a single run, but they require a significant investment that many in-house printing facilities may not have. If you don't have such specialized printers, your color printing process may involve printing templates on one machine and then moving the documents to a second machine for color printing. This process is inefficient and increases your costs. An alternative to in-house printing is partnering with a provider that has the right equipment and technology to make full-color printing seamless.
