Daily Dispensing Insights #05 If you ask me what is the ONE quality every pharmacist must possess, my answer would be: Attention to Detail. This quality is what I believe earned Salah Patel -a senior pharmacist of my team-the “Best Service Excellence” award among over 400 employees—a testament to the value of precision in our profession. Why does attention to detail matter so much in pharmacy? The pharmacy environment is inherently high-stakes. It’s a place where cognitive bias—the mental shortcuts our brains take—can easily develop, especially in fast-paced, repetitive tasks. This bias is often the root cause of dispensing errors, which can have serious consequences for patient safety. Attention to detail acts as a safeguard. It demands: *A keen presence of mind to avoid overlooking critical information in prescriptions or patient profiles. *Proactiveness to double-check and anticipate potential errors before they occur. In practice, it means scrutinizing every prescription, ensuring correct dosages, being mindful of drug interactions, and communicating clearly with patients and healthcare providers. A moment of inattention could lead to a potentially life-threatening error, but consistent focus can build trust and ensure safety.

Advair 100/50 dosed 2 puffs PO twice daily…. Double the max recommended dose of salmeterol… Of course I recommended increasing strength to Advair 250/50 and changing sig to 1 puff PO twice daily. Pharmacists, do you know your gold standard therapies? If you don’t, that’s ok. Neither does The Fed. US dollars used to be redeemable for gold. 24.75 grains per dollar to be exact. That hasn’t been the case for over 50 years. Gold and silver has been used as money since ancient times. Every time a currency is uncoupled from precious metals, disaster eventually follows. Additionally, new Section 1732.8 outlines renewal requirements for pharmacy technicians, including 1 hour of CE in cultural competency and documentation retention for four years.
