Here are some things I wish my patients knew: - Medicine and specifically diagnosis is about probabilities. Even “gold standard” at times simply means a higher probability. False positives and false negatives are inherent in medicine. - When I recommend a treatment, I am evaluating the probable benefits and harms of the medication. - There is a potential for harm with every single medication. The 100% no harm medication doesn’t exist. - While “do no harm” is often touted as the oath we take, in reality this is more akin to “don’t harm the patient intentionally”. There is a risk of harm with almost all treatments we prescribe. - I wish I could simply talk to my patients and not have to look at my computer at all. In the virtual sphere of the Gulf Medical University's Academic Health Center, a captivating webinar unfolded as part of the PharmD Continuing Education Forum's Drug Information Series. This particular session, held on Thursday, April 18, 2024, delved into the intricate realm of medication side effects—ranging from the benign to the perilous. Among the attendees was myself, a young pharmacist deeply committed to advancing my knowledge of pharmacotherapy. As I logged into the webinar, I anticipated gaining invaluable insights from esteemed speakers led by Prof. Muhammad Al-Shorbagy, the distinguished Dean of the College of Pharmacy - Gulf Medical University. The webinar was a mosaic of enlightening discussions. We explored the nuances of medication safety, learning to distinguish harmless from harmful side effects. We dissected case studies and real-world scenarios, unveiling how certain drugs could be both beneficial and potentially lethal. For me, the experience was transformative. Each revelation was a brushstroke on the canvas of my professional journey, reinforcing my dedication to patient care and safety. I absorbed the knowledge eagerly, envisioning how these lessons could enhance my practice and positively impact my future patients. As the virtual session concluded, and the participants signed off, I carried with me a newfound appreciation for the intricacies of drug therapy. Armed with insights from the Drug Information Series, I felt better equipped to navigate the complexities of medication management with competence and confidence. In the ensuing months, amid the routine of my pharmacy work, I reflected on that enlightening virtual gathering—the moment my passion for pharmaceutical care was reignited, and my commitment to continuous professional development was reaffirmed. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the various models within the DSO landscape. The traditional DSO model, the Dental Partnership Organization (DPO), and the Dental Partnership Group (DPG)—each of these structures offer different benefits, but also come with their own sets of challenges. The traditional DSO model has been around for a while, offering centralized ownership and management across multiple practices. It’s a great fit for those who want efficiency, scalability, and streamlined operations. But as with anything, it’s not without its challenges, especially when it comes to maintaining the unique culture of each practice under a centralized system. Then we have Dental Partnership Organizations (DPOs), which operate with a more collaborative approach. In this model, the dentist still maintains a level of ownership, but the DSO offers guidance and operational support. The benefit here is that dentists can have more autonomy while still gaining the operational expertise needed to scale. However, it may require a bit more effort on the DSO’s part to manage diverse business models. And let’s not forget the rise of Dental Partnership Groups (DPGs), which are gaining traction as a more flexible option for groups of dental professionals looking for a mix of independence and support. This model often provides more of a “partnership” style of management, where dentists are more involved in decision-making, but they still receive the operational and business backing needed to grow. As the industry continues to evolve, new models are emerging every day. The key is to understand what will work best for your goals and vision. Whether you're looking for centralized control, partnership-driven autonomy, or a hybrid of both, it's essential to weigh the pros and cons of each model carefully. Over 30% of Americans have a fear of dental care. 12% of Americans experience significant fear capable of preventing treatment. Endodontics professionals commonly encounter dental anxiety in patients. While education, awareness, and support are impactful solutions, directly improving care can make a large impact. Innovations in dental technology are making diagnosis and treatment more accurate, effective, and accessible for patients in a shorter duration of time. Consequently, patients spend less time under duress or anxiety during care. This time is important because it can decrease the number of Americans who avoid dental care out of fear, a number that currently surpasses 40 million. These individuals are also at higher risk for decaying teeth, gum disease, and early tooth loss, making them high-risk patient populations. I would be thrilled to join Mubadala's board and gain insights into their vision for the US dental vertical moving forward with these two recent events. For sure, board mandate is to go deep into this vertical. 1) DCA's acquisition (https://lnkd.in/efjBm8-p) 2) Zelis minority stake (https://lnkd.in/eRAUtc-W) My prediction: 1) As the 5-7 year cycle for two U.S.-based clearinghouses reaches its peak, Mubadala is likely to acquire one and then secure a majority stake in Zelis (more tech enabled). 2) Other DSOs in dd to be soon acquired by Mubadala. Time will reveal what the future holds.

The objective of the probative conversation is called "the flip". The flip is your change in status in the prospective patient's mind from a vendor to expert practitioner. Here's another promise: The more probative conversations you have with your prospects, the higher your conversion rates and the average fee you can charge. 📋 Plan: Speak the facts and tell the truth. Tell them what successful patients typically do in three simple steps: 1️⃣ They take a self-test or explore educational material. Learning about their options helps them feel informed and empowered. 2️⃣ They book and attend an appointment. A consultation determines their suitability and answers their questions. 3️⃣ They trust the process. They feel confident moving forward with the right surgeon, credentials, and care. It doesn't have to be any more complicated than that. You don't need to worry about convincing. Just tell them what successful patients do. If you’re showing patients what’s possible—and speaking to their fears and hopes—you’re giving them the proof and plan they need to take the next step. Your proof is your strongest asset.
