💯 agree with this viewpoint Today there are hundreds of products in every vertical that should really be features not products 🤯 Who actually enjoys having 20+ software applications to run a business? I’ve yet to meet a degenerate who does 😂 Building a compound startup or true system of record is not for the faint hearted. Everything is harder. Navigating through the complexity and the breadth vs depth conundrum is agonising 🛣️ 🧟‍♂️ But if you can stick the course and execute on this strategy successfully to build the ‘one stop shop for X’ both the customer and the software provider get incredible rewards 🏆🏆 #compound #startup

Have you ever thought about how compliance laws are a lot like design systems? I recently spoke with Joe Toscano, founder of DataGrade, and he made a fascinating comparison. Joe explained how Brad Frost's atomic design methodology took an engineering approach to design: → Creating standardized elements → Templatizing them → Scaling them across a system This led to the rise of human interface guidelines (HIGs) from tech giants like Google, Apple, and IBM. But here's where it gets really interesting: Joe argued that privacy laws and regulations are like the ultimate HIG for product design. Just like how HIGs provide rules and constraints for design systems... Compliance laws set guardrails for what we can and can't do with user data. If we design something that isn't compliant, it doesn't matter how sleek the UI is. Legal requirements become the top-level framework we have to design within. That's what got Joe into studying laws - to understand this new "design system" for building products. So next time you're cursing a lengthy legal doc or trying to make sense of GDPR... NEW: Internal Threads Internal threads allow you to spin up conversations in Slack from Pylon. It's great when you want to start a conversation with someone, but they primarily use Slack (e.g. engineers, product people or anyone who isn't living out of the support system). Common internal threads we are creating at Pylon: 1/ #bugs to report a potential bug 2/ #project channels to ask a team a question about a specific feature 3/ #feedback to report product feedback to the team It's been one of the most game-changing features we've released and we're so excited to share it with everyone. I have a similar bias to Marty Cagan - I'm a Scientist by training (PhD), but moved to Product after learning the ropes via an Entrepreneurship route. Is Product an Art or a Science? We at Iteraite think it should be made more into a Science. And one of the ways we're doing it is helping #ProductManagers create with the help of #AI (of course) and generate ideas. Here's what I can say from years of experience working with some of the most brilliant people at places like University of California, Berkeley and various companies: Many people may be "brilliant", but have very low #creativity - which is something we usually associate with "Art". So what happens if you're a PM, and you have a low Creativity capability? Or are highly Creative, but don't know how to do things in a rigorous manner? That's where AI-Frameworks really shine - doing things Methodically can help both creative people become more scientific (use rigorous approaches, utilize data, etc), whereas it can help spark the creativity in those who lack it by helping them think and sift through ideas that the AI generates.
