Omni Federal is pleased to announce a recent award to lead the development of SOCOM’s Enterprise Training Marketplace within Digital University. SOCOM recognized a need for a comprehensive, secure, and user-friendly marketplace where SOCOM units can easily explore, select, purchase, and manage approved training from reputable vendors. Speed, convenience, and flexibility are the three core principles of this simplified procurement process. SOCOM requires an Amazon-like platform with automated procurement features that can be easily changed and adapted to meet evolving mission requirements. This single mission-enabled platform will allow users to acquire the necessary training needs of Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), Theater Special Operations Commands (TSOCs), Special Missions Units (SMUs), and SOCOM service components. We leveraged a deep understanding of SOCOM’s distinct enterprise training requirements to conceptualize a unique SOCOM Training Marketplace design within Digital University. Our initial focus is to create a streamlined user interface and enhance the user experience for effortless navigation through the extensive pool of 100+ SOCOM-specific vendors. To capture SOCOM stakeholder needs, Omni is applying our commercially proven Human-Centered Design process adapted to meet the mission and security needs of DoD agencies. Our scope of work includes integrating an easy-to-use and streamlined procurement process, initially developed, and validated by the Digital University Program Team to expedite the acquisition of training resources. The specific and unique SOCOM Training Marketplace procurement process seamlessly aligns with the well-defined and strategically crafted set of Digital University acquisition stages, enabling integration of the two to meet specific training requirements established by the SOCOM enterprise. Testifying before the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation’s Aviation Safety Subcommittee on U.S. Air Traffic Control Systems, Personnel and Safety, our President Capt. Jason Ambrosi outlined how implementing new and expanding existing communications, navigation and surveillance technologies with air traffic management systems will ease the burden placed on flight crews and improve the safety of our skies. “We have seen in several near-miss incidents, including a particularly close call in Austin in February of last year, pilots are the final line of defense in ensuring safety in aviation,” said Ambrosi. “As operators in the system, pilots have a vested interest in the Federal Aviation Administration sustaining legacy systems and advancing technological and infrastructure improvements to ensure the National Airspace System remains safe and efficient. However, the system’s potential isn’t being fully realized—in part because many airliners aren’t properly equipped to take advantage of its updated capabilities.” Integrating better communications, navigation, and surveillance technologies with air traffic management systems improve situational awareness and produce safer and more efficient operations. The capabilities that have been implemented with NextGen have increased situational awareness and provided tools to help pilots make safe decisions through performance-based navigation, data communication, and ADS-B implementation. However, only 43 airports nationwide are fully equipped with key NextGen technologies and in some circumstances, nearly 20 percent of airliners are unable to utilize the new procedures, leaving pilots and air traffic controllers to use workarounds which add complexity and workload. “Unfortunately, underinvestment, including for the Facilities and Equipment account, is affecting the systems pilots and air traffic controllers use to ensure safe and efficient operations. Resources have not kept up with inflation and effectively require the agency to prioritize sustainment to the detriment of modernization and infrastructure needs,” added Ambrosi.

During a three-week effort, Future Vertical Cross Functional Team (FVLCFT) partnered with U.S. Army DEVCOM C5ISR Center, U.S. Army DEVCOM Aviation & Missile Center and the U.S. Army Redstone Test Center (RTC) at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida to advance Launched Effects (LE) behaviors and characteristics for the #warfighter. FVL completed Phase 3 of the advanced networking waveform characterization during the experimentation. The team collected data on multiple radios and waveforms during multi-ship flights at extended operational ranges against both contested and uncontested environments. Data gathered will be used to inform future aviation modernization; and to validate, modeling and simulation efforts. The intent was to learn about the trade space of long-range air to air; and air to ground communications. The emphasis is increased range and endurance for future LEs combined with a low probability of detection, and a low probability of jamming from perceived threats. LE surrogates successfully demonstrated teaming behaviors, characteristics, and attributes against both contested and uncontested conditions as they negotiated the test area. The Contingency Location Operations Rehearsal (CLOR) 2024 took place at the Combat Readiness Training Center from June 24 - 28, sending close to 100 Airmen across the country to practice for future deployments. During the CLOR, Airmen focused on implementing the Agile Combat Employment (ACE) concept through practicing command and control of dispersed force elements in a simulated wartime scenario. The CLOR also presented an opportunity for the United States Air Force to integrate new technologies.
