The report identifies the top U.S. regions for natural gas power plants, emphasizing the role of natural gas in balancing the grid due to increased load growth, accelerated coal retirements, and higher levels of intermittent generation. EIR’s analysis points to SPP as the premier market, driven by robust forward power prices, low gas feedstock costs, and higher expected price volatility. Conversely, NYISO, CAISO and ISONE are less attractive due to high feedstock costs and lower expected power price volatility.
