Very insightful post. Appreciate the energy that went into it. At various intervals and for various states, exams and licensure has become a way for experienced engineers and surveyors to limit the number of licensees. Happened in surveying years ago by forcing all surveyors to have a college degree. Our colleges have also been failing our students by not pushing licensure during college. So new grads come out several years after college to pass the EI (EIT for us old folks) and they struggle to pass. I sincerely hope that those that are making licensure too difficult will understand that AI software is becoming vastly more sophisticated. It won't be long before software can exceed the abilities on CERTAIN tasks better than humans. Given that it is the really large corporate entities that are developing that software, and they employ about 1,000x more lobbyists that we do in engineering, how long will it take before those companies push for licensure to be modified? HUGE step, and hope it will never happen, but if the engineering and academic world can't solve the problem of available engineers, Congress will.......and you won't like the result.

#Connecticut political leaders secure $125M federal grant for Interstate interchange upgrade in Meriden. The grant supports phase 3 of the project, aimed at reducing congestion, improving safety, and modernizing the dangerous roadway configuration that connects Interstate 91, Interstate 691 and Conn. Route 15 in #Meriden. The cost of the project's first phase totaled $80 million and was entirely funded by Connecticut. The second portion of the work is supported by a combination of $50 million in state funding and $200 million federal funding from the BIL. 🚀 **Just Published!** 🚀 I’m excited to share my latest research paper titled **"Modeling Life Expectancy and Cost Effectiveness for UHPC Bridge Retrofitting Techniques"** published in the journal Advances in Bridge Engineering. In this paper, we explore how Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) can be a game-changer for bridge maintenance and rehabilitation. 🌉✨ A major contribution of this paper is the life expectancy model for UHPC concrete. This is a matter of the quandary because life expectancy for concrete structures has been quantified by evaluating the corrosion or predicting the bridge condition index. Yesterday marked an exciting milestone as we completed the final CLT shear wall test after an intense two-and-a-half months at Virginia Tech. During this period, Adam Phillips, PE, and I tested over 46 CLT shear walls using the SDPWS-provided shear connections, alternative connections to those in SDPWS, and combinations of both SDPWS and alternative shear connections. As you can see in this video, there are no visible shear connectors between walls and plates, making this solution more appealing to building owners, architects, and other stakeholders. Additionally, a key advantage of this solution is its easy disassembly. The threaded rods are visible for testing but can be concealed within the wall. With this solution, we achieved a lateral deformation of approximately 4% of the inter-story drift. A huge thanks to ARPA-E for funding this project through the HESTIA program! Excited to share two of our recent publications on concrete materials, completed in collaboration with Lisa Colosi Peterson, PhD, environmental engineering professor in the UVA Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Gabriel Arce, research scientist at the Virginia Transportation Research Council (VTRC). Our first study, published in the Journal of Cleaner Production, investigates how life cycle assessment (LCA) and technoeconomic assessment (TEA) can quantify reductions in global warming potential (GWP) achieved through innovative concrete mixtures or production techniques.
