VoiceRAG: retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) apps with a real-time voice interface. The new GPT-4o realtime API for audio is now available in Azure OpenAI. This model allows developers to build applications with user interfaces like ChatGPT’s advanced voice mode, where users have a real-time, full-duplex audio channel with the model. If the model uses audio for input and output, how do you integrate a retrieval system to ground responses, along the lines of what typical RAG applications do? My first memorable project joining IBM Watson out of college was pitching a product idea to the then-CEO of the division. I created a new shell app in IBM Bluemix (now IBM Cloud) and overwhelmed by where to start coding as I was unfamiliar with the directory layout and which files to edit. If former me had access to GitHub Workspace, the narrative would be fundamentally different. From the announcement: “As programming in natural language lowers the barrier of entry to who can build software, we are accelerating to a near future where one billion people on GitHub will control a machine just as easily as they ride a bicycle.” Let’s pilot the future and democratize coding up PoCs. I don’t believe this will replace developers, rather, shorten time for iteration and lower start up cost! I’m truly excited! #GitHub #GitHubWorkspace #GenerativeAI #GenAI #AI #ArtificialIntelligence
