  • Reusable UI pattern for hardware button education on a wearable device

    Issued US 44689

An on-watch, reusable on-screen UI component educates users about the actions that can be initiated by a watch's hardware buttons. The Android Wear OS or a watch app can render a hint, which will animate in on the screen from the direction of the hardware button's location on the watch bezel. For example, if the hardware button is at the 3 o'clock position, the hint will animate in from the 3 o'clock position and all elements (icons, text, etc) within that hint will be oriented relative to the…

An on-watch, reusable on-screen UI component educates users about the actions that can be initiated by a watch's hardware buttons. The Android Wear OS or a watch app can render a hint, which will animate in on the screen from the direction of the hardware button's location on the watch bezel. For example, if the hardware button is at the 3 o'clock position, the hint will animate in from the 3 o'clock position and all elements (icons, text, etc) within that hint will be oriented relative to the 3 o'clock position. This component solves the problem of educating users about off-screen affordances, and provides 3P app developer with an easy way to customize the educational content by swapping out the icons shown in the hint. The Android Wear OS also uses this hint component to educate new users about the watch system. We've also defined logic that gates when, and how often, these hints are shown per app.

  • On/Off Switch Design for Android Wear 2.0

    Issued US 43929

On/Off toggle switch that specifically fits for small watch display. This button design and animation is unique to Android Wear. The visual design is catered towards natively round devices. The button is animated (morphed) in between the state of On and Off to create a slight side bounce movement. The middle state of the animation has a toggle switch that stretches as it slides across. Both states are in separate color (Off in Grey, and On in Green) to clearly identify the difference. It is a…
