Building the Shadowing Program I Wish I Had A year ago, I launched the Shadowing Program because, reflecting on my journey since joining Pratt & Whitney a decade ago, I realize how valuable it would have been to have such an opportunity early in my career. Navigating new roles and departments can feel like a leap into the unknown. The goal of this program is to bridge those gaps by offering real-world insights and firsthand exposure to what different teams and functions do. In 2024, more than 200 sessions have taken place, and it’s been amazing to see the enthusiasm from both participants and hosts. Why this Program Matters - Broader perspective: Shadowing helps you understand how other teams operate and how your work connects to the bigger picture. - Skill-building through observation: Watching others tackle challenges provides insight you can apply to your own role. - Exploring future paths: It offers a chance to reflect on potential career moves by experiencing different functions firsthand. This program is my way of giving back—creating opportunities that I wish I had when starting my own journey here. Embattled US plane maker Boeing on Friday said it is making progress in rebuilding trust with passengers and regulators, nearly a year after a door panel blew off during an Alaska Airlines 737 Max 9 flight. #Boeing Boeing has committed to implementing design changes across its 737 Max fleet within 12 months following a mid-air incident in which a door panel blew out on an Alaska Airlines flight. Elisabeth Lund, Boeing’s Senior Vice President for Quality, testified before the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), revealing that engineers are working on modifications to prevent doors from closing unless properly bolted. This commitment comes as investigators released 3,800 pages of documents related to the January incident, highlighting the rushed and pressured environment in which the plane was completed. The NTSB’s investigation determined that the door plug on the Alaska Airlines flight was missing four bolts, which caused the panel to blow off at 16,000 feet, depressurizing the cabin and forcing an emergency landing. Boeing acknowledged that no documentation exists to explain the removal of these bolts, a lapse attributed to low morale, high staff turnover, and poor communication between Boeing and its supplier, Spirit AeroSystems. The testimony also revealed that Boeing employees were under intense pressure, leading to hasty repairs and overlooked safety procedures. The incident has underscored ongoing concerns about Boeing’s safety culture, with NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy expressing the need for significant improvements. The traumatic experience for the 171 passengers and six crew members aboard the Alaska Airlines flight was detailed in the released documents, with flight attendants recalling the chaos and fear that ensued after the door panel's blowout. The incident further damages Boeing's reputation, already tarnished by two fatal 737 Max crashes in 2018 and 2019, which resulted in Boeing facing criminal and regulatory scrutiny. In addition to the design changes, Boeing is also dealing with the repercussions of its safety failures, including a guilty plea to conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government and a settlement of up to $487 million in fines related to the crashes. The leadership shakeup continues as Dave Calhoun steps down as CEO, with Kelly Ortberg set to take over. NTSB Releases Report On Recent Delta Aircraft Collision At Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport The report states that during the collision, “the CRJ sustained lateral accelerations of 0.5 G left followed by 0.55 G right, and the CRJ’s heading was rotated about 9° clockwise.” A final report is awaited for this, which will give a conclusive decision about how this incident happened and steps to prevent something like this from happening again. An entire generation of skilled aircraft maintenance technicians is retiring—with no replacements in sight. Airlines will have no choice but to rely on predictive maintenance and AI-driven technology to fill the gap, period.

American Update: Due to ongoing Boeing 787 Dreamliner delivery delays, American Airlines is adjusting its spring 2025 schedule, reducing frequencies on certain long-haul international routes to maintain operational reliability. Specific routes affected by these adjustments have not been disclosed.
