The transfer process in higher education can be complex and challenging for many students. Transfer students often face obstacles, with colleges sometimes prioritizing incoming freshmen over them, leading to multiple application rounds, increased costs, and exhaustion. I look forward to start teaching my online course, 'Leadership in the Age of Technology" (TML-0121/EM-0254) this week with Tufts University Gordon Institute, and for my third year of running the course. During the course we explore many contemporary questions regarding the practice of leadership: >What is the future of leadership in the Age of Technology? >How will the growing diffusion of technologies throughout society and the workplace - such as ChatGPT, smarter devices, Industry 4.0 technologies, and robotics - impact the dynamics of leadership and the approach of leaders? >Are the fundamentals of leadership still relevant today, or does the Age of Technology require something different from the leaders of tomorrow? Emerging from the grip of the Covid-19 pandemic and the rise of generative AI, this course explores how leaders need to confront change and embrace new and emerging technologies in a world that is increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous. Tomorrow’s leaders will require the human-centered soft skills to lead teams that are increasingly remote and global, while still channeling the hard skills to plan and organize in a way that is timeless. These transformational leaders, however, should be guided by a sense of purpose and a set of values that help them navigate the ethical and moral dilemmas inherent in balancing the needs of people, planet, and profit. Students will gain a better understanding of the forces shaping the theory and practice of leadership and evolve their thinking about their own leadership style in the Age of Technology. As we near a new year, and a new set of predictions (yes, 2025 is only 6 weeks away), I took a look at Higher Ed Dive’s 2024 predictions: consolidation, the rise of artificial intelligence, attacks on DEI, issues with FASFA, litigation and legislation, and rough times for OPMs. Most of these we could see from a mile away and others may not have come to full fruition. Other trends like continued distrust of the degree's value, ongoing pressures to reduce degree requirements for jobs, and the huge focus on skills, credentials, and trades weren’t mentioned. Nonetheless, it’s been an active year for higher education. I don’t think 2025 will bring calm waters. https://lnkd.in/g4arT-Tf

I appreciate this webinar - the AI topic comes up as a directive from campus leadership again and again, but many are left still grappling with what that means, "um...how do I / should I use AI in my day-to-day on campus?" There's also an enormous gap in our general understanding of AI (ex. ChatGPT writing a marketing campaign vs. TikTok actively building & adjusting an algorithm). The nuance to AI is vast and extreme. If you're AI questioning, tune in!
