Did you know that DeLa Express, LLC filed responses to issues raised during the scoping period? In September, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission held scoping sessions on the DeLa Express Pipeline Project in Texas and Louisiana. The scoping sessions were an opportunity to collect public comments about the project and how the proposed project may affect you, your land, or your community. As part of FERC’s pre-filing environmental review process, DeLa Express, LLC submitted responses to those scoping session comments. In the response document, Appendix A (page 14) provides a “comment matrix” that is segmented into topics, such as accessibility, air quality, economic impact, environmental impact, environmental justice, among others. Workforce Gap: By 2030, an estimated gap of nearly 124,000 workers exists for land-based and offshore wind. Key Actions to Close Gap: - Improve education and training programs (e.g., student-teacher ratios, funding, infrastructure, curriculum). - Enhance job attractiveness (e.g., wages, stability, location). - Increase job awareness through educational connections, internships, apprenticeships, and collegiate competitions. Main Takeaways Hiring Challenges: - Entry-level workers lack desired experience/qualifications. - Insufficient non-entry-level applicants. - Difficulty in hiring diverse demographics. - Lack of demographic-specific hiring initiatives. RWE and Peabody Energy are partnering to develop renewable energy projects on repurposed mining lands in the Midwest. The renewable projects planned for the reclaimed lands have the potential to generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of more than 850,000 homes across the region. The partnership will allow for projects to be developed in rural areas without impacting farmland, while still bringing important economic benefits to the area.

Winter Supply Adequacy Risks Due to Gas-Electric Dependence As we move towards winter, NERC has released a statement on the criticality of natural gas supply risk in which it "encourages all entities across the gas-electric value chain... to take all necessary actions to prepare for extreme cold, keep gas flowing, and keep the lights and furnaces on." There have been 5 major electricity supply disruptions associated with natural gas issues over the last 13 years (see table below). This highlights the growing dependance of North American power systems on natural gas for supply adequacy. With the retirement of our last coal-fired generator this year, Alberta is now fully dependent on natural gas for supply adequacy. While we are lucky to have a robust natural gas supply and transmission system, we must acknowledge the interdependence of the Alberta power and gas systems and explicitly consider this as we plan the expansion and operation of both systems going forward. The Alberta Electric System Operator's 24 month supply-demand forecast (see graph below) indicates adequate supply as we head into winter, but there are some relatively "thin" periods of surplus that could be problematic if coupled with natural gas system disruptions. Moonshot Missions’ Senior Utility Advisor Nathan W. Coey recently visited two facilities where he participated in a roundtable discussion and conducted a site visit. The first facility, in Tennessee, has been concentrating on meeting effluent ammonia limits by making improvements to optimize its operations. After learning more about the facility’s immediate needs, Moonshot presented two recommendations: 💧 Install a pump to enhance mixing and increase oxygen levels. 💧 Create a passive filtration system to prevent debris from affecting downstream operations, alongside a dosing strategy to aid in consistent treatment. The second facility, located in Virginia, has been focusing on optimizing its operations by implementing solutions to enhance ammonia levels and ensure consistent chlorination. The improvements being made at this facility are interconnected and build upon each other, resulting in quick wins. Efforts to improve the overall performance and condition of the facility include intentional pumping, tank baffling, aeration support, and enhancements to the chlorination system.
