How do you build momentum? You start small. Two years ago, my son's travel baseball team struggled to win a single game. They were a little better the next year, but no major breakthroughs. Then something happened. Actually, a lot of little somethings. A couple more balls started falling in for hits. A couple more ground balls ended up in kids' gloves instead of going for errors. As they caught some more breaks, their confidence grew. In year 3 they are competing for tournament titles, and finding themselves on the good side of 18-4 box scores. Nothing dramatic changed, the momentum has just carried them. The lessons are the same for your sales team. We frequently hear that sales efforts are "not getting traction" or "struggling out of the gates" following a launch. Building momentum is about small wins. Find little ways your salespeople can gain some confidence. Challenge them to pitch one new customer this week. Give them one new discovery question to ask a customer. Have them ask a colleague for one tip so they can try it. Don't focus on the result. Set them up with one task that they can turn into a success. When that works, they'll want to take one more step. Then another. Confidence will build, and results will follow. #salesenablement #changemanagement

Just finished “Chasing Four,” by Gene McCarthy. I was fortunate to work with Gene at both Timberland and Under Armour earlier in my career and I enjoyed reliving those chapters of my life through reading this book. This is a trend that pretty much any brand can tap into, and it's actually engaging and entertaining, not forced or cringe. Watch the video below. If St. Louis County can do it then you can too.
