Applied Digital (NASDAQ: APLD) has secured a $200 million debt facility from investment firm CIM Group to fund the buildout of its high-performance computing (HPC) campus in Ellendale. This includes $125 million in initial commitments. Even bigger, Applied has signed a 400MW hosting deal with an unnamed hyperscale customer at the site. This massive capacity lease seemingly accounts for the full built-out plans across multiple facilities. The Ellendale campus consists of the 180MW ELN01 facility largely leased to Marathon Digital for crypto mining, and the 100MW ELN02 facility intended for HPC/AI workloads like the new 400MW deal. Applied Digital (NASDAQ: APLD) has been actively financing the Ellendale buildout, securing $112 million across several rounds earlier this year as it transitions its model towards enterprise HPC hosting. This CIM deal and anchor tenant lease represent major milestones that put Ellendale on track after some operational challenges in recent months. The reverse merger, slated for Q4 pending $40 million liquidity, combines Medera's $22.6 million investment with Keen Vision’s $149.5 million, leading to a projected enterprise value of $622.6 million. Medera aims to advance its gene therapies for heart failure and Duchenne muscular dystrophy using innovative intracoronary delivery methods. This merger marks a rare SPAC deal in biotech for 2024, highlighting a significant shift in funding strategies within the sector. 🦠 Carisma Therapeutics and Moderna are expanding their collaboration to advance in vivo CAR-M cell therapy for autoimmune diseases. This approach involves using Moderna's mRNA-delivery technology to reprogram macrophages within the patient's body, eliminating the need to culture cells outside the body. Carisma will receive research funding from Moderna and could earn milestone payments and royalties. Forge will provide process and analytical development services using its proprietary technologies and all activities will occur at Forge's facility in Columbus, Ohio. 🦠 xcellbio has advanced its collaboration with Labcorp by installing the new AVATAR™ Foundry system at Labcorp’s Ann Arbor site. This new system, part of Xcellbio’s beta program, scales up the potency benefits observed with the smaller AVATAR Odyssey platform to large-scale cell therapy manufacturing. The AVATAR Foundry, a cGMP platform, aims to enhance the efficacy of CGT, particularly for solid tumors. Labcorp will use this system to improve cell expansion and potency, complementing its analytical testing capabilities. 🦠 Cellino Biotech has been awarded up to $25 million by the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) to develop its NEBULA project, an ultra-scalable, autonomous biomanufacturing technology for personalized regenerative medicines.
