A Combined Theory‐Experiment Analysis of the Surface Species in Lithium‐Mediated NH3 Electrosynthesis

I present our findings about the possible surface mechanisms for ammonia formation in non-aqueous electrochemical ammonia synthesis. I designed and performed most of the experiments. A rigorous electrochemical ammonia synthesis protocol with quantitative isotope measurements

Electrochemical Ammonia Synthesis is a hot field, but one where many results are doubted and direct replication is rare. Here, we show some of the common pitfalls that lead to false results and present a rigorous procedure to prove and measure electrochemical ammonia synthesis. Elucidating the synergistic mechanism of nickel–molybdenum electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction

Nickel Molybdenum alloys are known to be active hydrogen evolution catalysts in alkaline conditions. We prepare nickel nanoparticles on molybdenum foils and find that larger nanoparticles are more active, a counter intuitive result. We suggest that this is due to a fine balance of oxidation state effects.
