Project Summary - Active Gas Station—Eastern Michigan ORIN successfully implemented Free Product Removal (FPR) in-situ chemical oxidation using catalyzed sodium persulfate to treat LNAPL, contaminated soil, and groundwater. Treatment chemistry was injected while the Geoprobe rods were raised throughout the target interval. A vac truck was present to remove LNAPLand desorbed contaminants while providing hydraulic control. Approximately 2,400 gallons of 20% sodium persulfate catalyzed with PermeOx Plus was injected into 47 DPT injection locations. A second polish injection was needed to achieve site cleanup goals. In June of 2011, 24 DPT points were injected with approximately 1,200 gallons of 20% catalyzed sodium persulfate treatment. Project Results The catalyzed sodium persulfate treatment chemistry removed the free product and reduced the dissolved phase BTEX concentrations at the most contaminated well by an average of 78%, between pre-injection and post-injection sampling. Additionally, subsequent sampling events have observed no measurable LNAPL. The residual PermeOx Plus catalyst will continue to provide an oxygen source promoting bioremediation. https://lnkd.in/gqFwMs3A

I've reviewed both the complaint and consent decree for this enforcement action, and I've noted several items that have long-plagued the upstream oil and gas industry as it relates to #emissions: 1. undersized vent lines and control devices leading to PRV releases, 2. overestimating DRE from minimally-engineered or underdesigned flares, 3. overuse of representative hydrocarbon data and throughput estimates in preparing permitting authorizations. It seems that all of these things came back to bite Marathon in the end. $241.5 million is a hefty lesson learned, I hope that others take note and take a closer look at their permits and facilities to avoid similar fates. I get it: it's expensive, projects move fast, there's pressure to get things built and operating, and there are scores of facilities to contend with; things can get lost in the shuffle. The main issue that caught my eye were the PSD allegations, but it seems to hold water. If you have a facility that you claim to be a true NSR minor that is later found to not just be Title V but PSD... that's a pretty serious oversight, especially when applied to 24 facilities. Seems like folks can't afford mishaps like these. Operators: work diligently with your environmental teams during the CAPEX process and make sure that they're on the same page to avoid issues like this; work with your consultants closely and make sure that they're not only capable of producing approvable applications, but also applications that lead to permits that you can live with as a compliance tool. #oilandgasemissions #oilandgas #airpermitting #environmentalcompliance

Stormwater treatment systems get more complex as they get larger because additional variables complicate the flow balance across multiple filter units. Really large systems may even require more than one operator. Make sure your operators are highly trained and certified.

In September, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission held scoping sessions on the DeLa Express Pipeline Project in Texas and Louisiana. The scoping sessions were an opportunity to collect public comments about the project and how the proposed project may affect you, your land, or your community. The Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA) has released its latest climate report, showcasing progress in reducing emissions. The analysis conducted by Trinity Consultants showed that INGAA member companies, including Kinder Morgan, which account for over half of U.S. interstate pipeline throughput, have decreased their total methane emissions and emissions intensity from 2019 to 2022. By incorporating these devices into stormwater management plans, communities can foster sustainable environments, mitigate flood risks, and protect aquatic ecosystems.
