Great news for operators! A more rational CBRS DPA activation methodology has been approved. This will ensure more uptime for broadband fixed wireless providers because channel grants will not be suspended as often. Though there are 15 possible CBRS channels losing one or more does not guarantee that an operator can easily get a replacement or a replacement channel adjacent to other channels. Adjacency is required by many smaller radio vendors to concatenate channels that enable effective broadband speeds and it helps even the efficiency of larger vendors. For those using GAA because they have no PALs or are supplementing their PAL bandwidth with GAA, losing channels forces more users on the remaining GAA channels and thus, interference. This act proves that spectrum sharing is viable and not detrimental to incumbents when deployed with reasonable controls.

The short answer to this question is that he would likely and promptly look to undoing any controversial FCC order that split on party lines during the past year. My hunch is that if he has the votes, this would be done during his "first 100 days" as Chairman, just like Chairman Pai did early in 2017. Next question who would be next head of NTIA and what current BEAD requirements would he or she outlaw or eliminate, e.g. rate regulation, etc.(which seem to have created participation barriers, especially for small, minority-owned and women-owned ISPs)?

The industry is buzzing about Apple's support for RCS services—it's been a hot topic lately. As someone deeply involved in the RCS world, I can barely contain my excitement. Apple has long favored its messaging platform, iMessage, over adopting RCS. Its reluctance likely stemmed from wanting to ensure user experience and security. The adoption of RCS could ramp up Apple's competition with Meta, although it won't necessarily challenge WhatsApp directly. But it's a positive move for Google and MNOs. With SMS usage dwindling, RCS was being relegated to advertising, reminders, and one-time passwords. A strong person-to-person service is also essential to complement business services, which are now a primary revenue source. Without personal messages, opening rates and campaign ROI would plummet. If Google and Apple push RCS for deeper device integration, it could shake up the OTT/messaging landscape. This could be a game changer for businesses, allowing them to connect more effectively with customers. RCS streamlines enterprise-customer communication, unlike OTT apps that require downloads. With Apple’s adoption, the gap in rich messaging functionality between platforms will narrow. As a leader in the industry, I am eager to see how this shift will reshape the dynamics of digital communication. We all need to be ready as we step into this exciting new chapter. The FCC’s proposal to mandate phone unlocking within 60 days of activation would have a significant impact on secondary device markets. Unlocked phones would flow more freely, enabling greater access to global resale channels and fostering fair competition among wireless carriers and MVNOs. Arguments against unlocking, such as fraud concerns or potential price increases, appear to be largely overstated and fail to account for how unlocked devices empower consumers and enhance market efficiency. This initiative would benefit not only MVNOs but also the broader ecosystem of refurbished and secondary device sales, facilitating smoother lifecycle transitions and a wider availability of affordable, unlocked devices worldwide. Here are the top three takeaways from this article regarding the current state and future of the telecom industry in the US. The question in my (and the author's) mind is whether this is just a cyclical blip or the new normal? Slowing Market Growth: The telecom industry is experiencing a slowdown in growth, which is affecting both cable and mobile operators. Providers are experiencing reduced customer additions in the broadband market and challenges in acquiring new mobile customers, despite increased promotions. Increase in Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A): As growth slows, telecom operators are increasingly turning to mergers and acquisitions to secure their financial positions and gain competitive advantages. These moves suggest a strategy among telecom companies to consolidate to manage costs, diversify offerings, and stabilize in a tougher market environment. Impact of Ending Government Subsidies: The impending conclusion of the US government's Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) poses additional challenges. This program has been a significant source of revenue for telecom companies, subsidizing services for millions of households. Its end could lead to a reduction in the customer base for some companies, although it may also drive shifts in consumer choices towards more economical service offerings, like MVNOs like Mint, or Comcast/Charter's wireless offerings. #mobiletelecom #wireless #broadband #mergers

Exhausted by the insanity of legal and Gov bureaus just not being able to navigate and thus rule and implement anything that actually works or betters "the Citizen". "Internet" is often used collectively and arbitrarily... and shutting it off can harm uninvolved citizens/persons etc... If you shut off internet to a household or establishment... what happens with 911? as an example for IP or Cell phones that are utilizing and/or have to use the WiFi connection for whatever reason? It's like shutting down a highway because someone used the highway as a get away route from committing a crime. IT'S STUPID Justice and idiot bureaucracy. BTW - I happen to know a little about both parties involved - and the copyright groups are some of the most scandalous, thug groups on the planet and somehow Cox Communications unfairly crossed their path.
